I just got a new pc but is way slower than the old one ,it took me hours to get to this site .anyone ever had such trouble with a new pc?

I haven't had a "new" pc in ages! However, I know that the first time or times you start up a new pc and connect to internet, every program on there is going to be updating in the background, which means slow load times for you until finished.

Could also be that there are too many programs running all at once. Like these so-called "smart phones", they just assume that people want or need all this software running all at once as we are incapable of opening a file individually, and that we also don't know enough to update our software. Several times the wife has turned on her phone in our fringe-reception area. Phone would be on for a day or two, but just sitting there. The software would start updating but not finish, so would lose everything it had gotten so far and have to start over again. Several times that has put us over our monthly data cap.

Even now the stupid thing still wants to update all the time!

Can you give us more information....the specs of th ecomputer, what OS it is using, the browser you have, what type of internet connection etc.

New versus old means nothing. How powerful is the new one compared to the old, and what software is it running? I replaced my wife's laptop a few months ago with a computer on sale from Walmart. It is no way near the computer her five-old laptop was. When I buy, I always check benchmark speed tests for the setup I want to buy.

The updating thing is also an issue with Windows 10. It takes some work to get into the settings and tell it you have a "metered" Internet connection so it will NOT keep updating automatically.

can you explain a little more just why it took hours to get to this site?

What is the 'processor' speed in Ghz? I have a bunch of computers with Win 10 and after forcing all the updates they are pretty fast. The fastest is my laptop (3Ghz dual core) that I installed a transistorized hard drive in when I installed 10 from XP. I have a 2.3 Ghz desktop with Win 10 and a disc hard drive that is noticeably slower.

I bought a Chromebook and it is the fastest thing I ever saw. It also has very good battery life between charging, over 10 hr. Love it

Try turning off ipv6 as some providers have to convert it and it slow it down.. way, way, way, down.

Bill,
I have a windows 7. What is the procedure for turning off the ipv6(or whatever ipv I have?)
