Concrete work advise

When the weather breaks I will be pouring a set of 3 steps up to our side door. A large area leading up to them and out to the driveway is going to be brick pavers on top of concrete. At the end of the bricks I want a curb of conrete that is same height as the pavers to keep the snow plows and errant drivers from tearing up the bricks. Question is should the entire slab including the curb float? Or should I pour the curb down to the frost line and tie the slab to it with rebar? Thanks in advance!

Butch,
When I added on to my house, I may have over did it, but nothing has settled. I put down 24 inch wide 32 inch footers for house, steps, and concrete drive. I even made sure there was part of the footer for the garage so the garage floor and the concrete drive rested on the footer. Nothing has settle, moved, or cracked. That was over 25 years ago. Part of my footer was for a brick ledge.

for no more than you have pour the curb and slab together.....two things about concrete, it will get hard and it will crack, concrete is no better that the base it sets on

Butch, this isn't what you asked (because I don't know the answer to your question), but I'll mention that pavers on top of a concrete slab are better on an inch (M/L) or sand, and the joints filled with sand. If you mortar set the pavers, or grout them with concrete, you can create a situation where water between the two layers can freeze and pitch the pavers. I set three large areas of pavers on an inch of sand over hardpan, ran a power compactor over them, and swept sand into the joints. Six or seven years later they still look as if they're mortar set.

There is only 3 things anyone needs to know about concrete.
1 it gets hard
2 it cracks
3 and most important IMHO, hire it done

I wouldn't tie the slab above the frost line to a cement curb that went below the frost line.
