Decent foam brushes

I use disposable foam brushes to paint things like wheel and plow frames.

Just a couple years ago I used to be able to get foam brushes that would hold up to paint an entire 3-bottom plow. Now I can't get one to last through painting half of a 16" wheel.

I've tried all the box stores, and even the mom and pop hardware. They all sell the same garbage brushes that break off just past the plastic "paddle" inside the foam.

Anybody know of a brand of brush, and a source that sells them, that will hold up decent? I don't mind paying a couple bucks per brush.

3M used to make disposable bristle brushes that were fair to OK. Inexpensive bristle brushes can be considered disposable when you consider they cost less than the 15 minutes of labor it takes to clean them.

I never did like those foam brushes. I like ones made with natural bristles. I think Harbor Freight sells a cheap priced natural bristle brush. some places sell them as chip brushes rather than paint brushes.

Well, at this point I have no choice but to try some cheap bristle brushes to get my project done.

I just found these Wooster Foam King brushes that are a couple bucks each and get good reviews. Wooster's a good brand. I've got expensive bristle brushes and rollers from them and they're far and away better than the rest of the garbage the box stores sell.

Unfortunately the box stores don't handle the wooster foam brushes. Tried to order them from Amazon but Amazon won't let me order them unless I order something else with the brushes!

I have bought enough $5- $10 boxes at estate auctions full of good quality brushes and rollers to last me a lifetime.

I ordered a box of foam brushes from Amazon; they were much better than what the local box stores were selling. Don't know if Amazon still has them, but you might want to check them out.

Barnyard Engineering,

Menards carries good foam brushes on a wooden handle, by:

JEN Manufacturing, Inc.
of Woroester, MA.

Anyway, they hold up well for furniture and/or interior applications. Don't know how they would hold up to painting rough, old iron.

At work I buy all my roller covers and frames from Solo Horton Brushes. Good prices, free shipping if you order enough and they have all kinds of different stuff. Can't speak to their foam brushes, but I am completely pleased with their 298 paint roller cover 2 pack for under $2. Granted I we don't use them for million dollar finishes.

Michaels or AC Moore --they have to be made in USA and they have to have the wooden sticks. Chinese ones don't even have the right foam.

Update.

I found the Wooster plastic handled foam brushes at Lowes. Just feeling them you could tell a huge difference. The foam is much denser than the cheap brushes.

So far one brush has outlasted an entire 6-pack of cheap brushes. I've put two coats of paint on three rims so far and one coat on a fourth rim, and the brush is still going strong.

Using rustoleum paint, and no signs of deterioration even after sitting in a sealed plastic bag soaked with paint for 3 days.
