OT: Mystery for Excel experts

While I was moving (by clicking and dragging) an email to a folder I wanted to keep it in, my finger slipped off the mouse button. Although the email had not reached its intended destination folder, that folder disappeared, and I have not been able to find it anywhere. I have done a search of every other folder, and the missing folder has not migrated to any of them. The only evidence I have that that folder still exists is that if I click on an email, right click for a drop down menu and click on Move, I get a pop up list of destinations and the name of the missing folder is on that list. If I click on that file name, the email I'm trying to move disappears---into that file, apparently. This suggests to me that the missing folder still exists somewhere, even though I can't find it. Can anybody tell me what's going on?

Thanks,

Stan

In the third to the last sentence I wrote "---into that file, apparently." It should have been "---into that FOLDER, apparently." This is already confusing enough without me making mistakes like that. Sorry.

Did you mean Outlook instead of Excel?
If so and you cant find the folder look in your folder pane. if it is not showing go to view on the menu and then navigation pane or folder pane (depending on version) and click normal.(it should show on the left side)
Look for any folders with an arrow and click on the arrow (the arrow indicates there are other folders within that folder.) If you see an arrow (triangle) pointing down and right that folder is already expanded at that level. You will need to look for arrows on all rows. Don't forget to look in deleted items as well.
If you were copying the email to a windows folder then use the windows explorer search.
Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks. It does help. And yes, I meant Outlook, not Excel. I'm so used to asking for advice about problems I have with Excel that I just automatically called it that.

As someone else mentioned - you can use the Windows Search Tool...
It will give results from all types of files: Outlook files (emails), Pictures, Documents, and one called Files.

For example, if I type in the name of my boss - it brings up these types of files:

Any email related to his name (either sent by him, sent to him, or any email with his name typed within the text of the email).

Any document with his name in it (no matter if Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.).

Any photo with his name related to that file.

Plus some other files.
