I have 3 vises set up in my shop. One on the bench between the 2 tool boxes I have and 2 on the welding table. One of the 2 on the welding table was my grand fathers vise and the other I got at an auction and it is an anvil vise as in a vise and an anvil all in one

A friend of mine gave me this vise, its pretty heavy ,probably bigger than I need ,but its kind of sentimental, and I wanted to try to set it up.It would take a pretty big heavy bench,,and I have limited space in that shed,I park the tractor with the mower in there.I think that old stand will work well, and I can move it around if I have to,

That vise is exactly like the one my Dad got with the farm he bought when we moved to Wisconsin. We used it to free anything that was rusted, straighten anything that was bent, and pounded on things it held with the biggest hammer we could find. It never failed. You got a real treasure there. Paint it blue and enjoy it!

Well the one I have on the bench is heavy but the bench is heavy also since it is made of 2 by lumber top legs etc etc. I do have what I was told was a vise stand but I have my pipe bender on it and that vise stand is so heavy I used my chain hoists to get it where it sits

Jon F said paint it red,,,lol I know I posted this up on t talk..but,,it was the guys here on tool talk that made the suggestion of a stand,,so I Wanted to thank them for the idea.

I couldnt lift this one into the truck without help,,but I did manage to get it unloaded and can sort of walk it around on the concrete floor,,but it is heavy'The vise itself is heavy too or,,Im getting weak,,,lol

Well I know I am getting weak but when a doctor sets 35lbs limit on you as for lifting it sort of make a guy get weaker

I have one somewhat the same size but with more flat anvil surface beyond the stationary jaw. One heavy sucker. The largest one McMaster-Carr has is around a $1000 bucks. My FIL gave me mine that was in his junk. Took a lot of penetrating oil to loosen it up but it was well worth it.

Nice Vise! You can't put a price tag on a good vise when you need it. That was one nice friend. On a side note, I love your shop building and the tractor.

That would work for you with the small space and not as much needing horsing...Will that work for me, not so much. I horse on lots of stuff in the vice, sometimes hard enough to twist the welding table (w/ contents) some. That being said look good, don't hurt yourself moving it around.

I made a 2 wheel hand cart years ago with 4 x 8 tires, wheel barrow size. It is very useful, would work well to move that stand and vise.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the size of the vise. Dumping that thing onto its side would probably break something.

Larry, it looks like things are really starting to come together for you with the little shop. It's great that you now have a nice heavy duty stand for your vise. Small bit of advice - you really, really need to paint the inside of your shop White. With that single light in there you'd be amazed at how much brighter it would be in there; more conducive to working in there, and less eye strain when working with small parts.

Doc :>)

I do have more lights,,we have one more box to hook up for three more light sockets,,but we didnt get to it yet, deer season started,,lol,,he may finish it now,bow season is over
