McMastr carr...wow! bolt order

All,

No joke, I ordered online, yesterday, a set of larger hardened capscrews for a project. The capscrews are threaded into a blind hole. For the same capscrews in a 1/8th inch shorter length, they were about 3 dollars a piece.

I ordered the 1/8th inch longer and they were about $10 for 10. I may use washers under the head or grind the ends off for that price.

Oh, they were delivered today...unbelievable how fast that happened. I did not pay for faster shipping.

Overall, a little research saved me some $, and the delivery was a fantastic surprise.

I have had similar results with McMaster Carr. Huge selection. Easy web site to use and find parts. Reasonable prices. Fast delivery. The only thing it doesn't have is that old Hardware Store smell.

Yes, they are the "go to place" for the unusual, and very fast delivery.

I remember the first time I ordered, long before internet and company charge cards. I called, actually got to talk to a real person that knew what to do! Explained what I needed from a catalog, then told them I didn't have an account.

"No problem, what's your address, we'll bill you"!

No questions, no credit check, no application. They trusted me, made a life long customer!

I also used them. I went into the local store and told them what I was looking for, the counter guy knew what I wanted and I was out the door in maybe 15 mins.

You would have to check the freight charges, when I was buying larger quantities of stainless steel bolts for a food production plant. Nebraska nut and bolt in Omaha would beat McMaster Carrs price. Might check it out.

I'll add yet another plug for McMaster Carr. We discovered them when we needed some square nuts to fit a 2" bolt on a counterweight. Been using them every since. For me their shipping has slowed a bit, but until about a year ago they would have anything I ordered from them on my doorstep the next day. I really don't think they changed anything as much as it was the delivery places have changed their way of doing business.

Before I retired I worked as a maintenance mechanic for 17 years and they were my favorite catalog. I ordered from them almost daily. I don't remember a back order ever. I didn't get stuff next day but it wasn't their fault, it was the internal order system of the company I worked for that slowed things to several days. When I order for myself at home now it is almost always next day.

Steve, I had the same experience. If I ordered something by 2:00 it would be here (Des Moines) at 10:00 in the MORNING! Their prices can be a bit more but we were willing to pay the 'extra' for their service. Many of their standard items were unavailable at ANY cost from a competitor.

I use them often at work too and from their location in NJ, orders shipped that day are delivered the next day UPS ground service. I like the cad drawing part of it, our draftsman uses that feature quite often to import into his work.

Yes McMaster Carr you get more for less money. We're required to use Grainger at work but can use McMaster Carr if the item can't be found anywhere else. Some of the big=wigs at work are getting a kickback from Grainger I'm sure. They're prices are outrages even though our company is world wide and are Grainger's biggest customer they're still high even with our discount.

yup, ditto on McM. We have a cart open every day and get 99.999% next day. It may come from a different warehouse but it'll be here. We spend close to a Million $ with them every year. It's our go-to place. Amazing the stuff they have on hand. Lot of our other big suppliers (electronic stuff) have stuff that is "vendor ship", but not McM.

Agreed on McM
What surprises me is that anything we order from others and pay next day it just does not happen out here in the boonies (never), but they can do it.
