Lithium-ion Voltage Retention,

Hello,

Both batteries are the same age, from the same tool. I charged them about a year or more ago. The weak one needs a second look. The other one is still about 9o+% charged 😂. Goes to prove all batterie packs are not created equal! They are Porter Cable packs, but with a little plastic trimming they will fit Black&Decker tolls of the same voltage,

One big problem I had with old Ni-CAD powered tools that were used infrequently was the need to anticipate use 24 hrs in advance so I could charge the battery. I am very pleased to see in my new Li-ION powered drill manual, that they recommend recharging the battery every 500 days if not in use. :)

Hello Jon Hagen,

That is probably about how wong has been since I charged them. I may just give the weak one a charge and see how long will keep the it,

With NiCads a "battery pack" is simply batteries.

With LiOns a circuit board to "protect" the delicate batteries is a part of the "battery pack".

Wonder how often the "battery" gets blamed when the included circuit board and electronics go south in a northeasterly direction?

Hello Bob,

I only seen one pack with good batteries and bad electronics. But I have just stated to take them apart two to three years now. I think they have their place and are here to stay for now,

Guido.
