can am spyder

Been riding for 47 years now and when I see one of those all I see is a wannabe. If you want 3 wheels got wit ha true 3 wheeler with the wheels in the back where they should be

No reason at all if that is what you want! I say GO FOR IT!
They seem to be very advanced and handle well. Lots of engineering in them. Polaris makes an interesting three wheeler too. More toward a car than a bike but neither one as the Can Am is.
Do it! You only live once!

Nothing wrong with them at all, they are just another step in the evolution of the motorcycle. They handle very well with a nice smooth ride and excellent cornering characteristics. Maintenance is simple and straightforward. All vehicles change and evolve over time, maybe those who run down progress are the wannabes who think they are still cool, but actually just a living anachronism......

A friend has one and loves it. He's got decades of riding and driving experience on everything from 2 to 18 wheels, and really likes it--good performance, excellent handling, and comfortable enough that his wife, who has back problems, can ride extended distances with him without the difficulties they encountered with other touring bikes. I've taken it out as well, and while I didn't really wring it out as it wasn't mine and I didn't want to damage it through not being used to it, it still impressed me with its handling, and I've also owned many motorcycles over 25+ years of riding, so I do have a decent basis for comparison. He hasn't had any major mechanical difficulties with it--one minor one he encountered was fairly low ground clearance, which has led to a few problems when he's trailered it (it needed a new tire) and he had to jockey his ramps a bit to avoid it high-centering when loading, but that's minor and he hasn't had any troubles while driving.

Rode motorcycles for over 42 years before I hung my helmet up. I am sorry Old but here is one time I have to disagree with you. The Cam Am reversed trike is much more stable in corners than a traditional trike. Kind of like traction control in cars except in the steering. Good solid proven engine and tranny. Good luggage options with a trailer option too. Not only that but in most cases less expensive than a Goldwing or H-D trike.

A lot of the people that I have talked to that own them are older riders that now have trouble holding a two wheeler up when stopped or holding one while a passenger gets on. Others I have talked to are amputees that still want a good comfortable trike with better handling that the traditional ones.

Take a look at how many of each you see on the road these days. I notice at lease 3 or 4 of the Cam Am's than the traditional trikes. All of these folks cannot be wrong.

This is just like computers, cars, trucks, firearms, cell phones, and farm equipment. With each advance in technology there are good things about that advance. Having researched the Can Am when they first came out my thoughts were why didn't this happen years earlier. Good stuff here.

Now when I was an active rider and now as a retired rider my thoughts are this. Ride what you want, when you want, where you want and enjoy the ride as it is not about the destination, it is ALL about the ride.

Auggy53 if you want one GO FOR IT and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Rode - dirt, enduro, baggers, touring, cruisers and utility bikes. I like'm all

I thought about getting one. Reason I don't is my back. I had to get rid of my goldwing because back couldn't stand up to ruff bouncing.

Will need a motorcycle license in some states. I'd buy a used one (2 years of garage sitting), if I had the yearning. You'd probably save $15,000.

why didn't it happen years ago? Tadpole trike did happen pre WW2- Morgan 3 wheeled cycle car in England, 2 wheels up front, rear wheel drive and legally a motorcycle in England, most other places. Sort of homemade rig from Walter Korpf 1980s- Kaw 440 rear and 2 wheels up front- one pattern used VW frontend with torsion bars, other had subframe from a Pinto(?)-- popular Mechanics or Pop Science had feature as well as Cycle Guide. European traffic and tax laws favoring motorcycle had various 3 wheeled rigs, most had the 2 wheels in back but some had the 2 wheels front- the Messerschmidt and the Iso Eggs with BMW engines using the 2 wheel motorcycle drive train. 'New' toys now have 'old' technology base many times. RN.

bought the r.t. Limited with all the whistles and bells

There is a company out around Seattle who is making a conversion kit for some Harleys and Gold Wings that puts 2 wheels in the front like that. This setup actually lets you lean the bike just like you were on 2 wheels. Tilting motorcycle Works is the company.
Tilt

I test rode one. It would depend on what you want, it isn't a motorcycle or even a sports car. It has anti-skid everything and heavy steering even though it has a decent engine. I'm 65 but it is way too old of a ride for me...

Bill,
I 68 years old with a mind that is much younger. My brain would love to ride again, but my old body has to remind my brain why I gave up riding 14 years ago.
