At work two nights ago a bunch of people were screaming up in the kitchen after one of the big Savory toasters blew up. 240 volts of awesome power. There was a heck of a flame & smoke trail up the wall from the outlet. This has got to be one of the best maximum Smoke jobs I have seen.

I don't think I've heard the term "maximum smoke" since I worked in Avionics in the Marine Corps.

The toasters have calrod elements in them that kinda glow a nice medium orange ALL the time. Never did an amp load on a unit but they pull full load all of 5he time. After you run them for a but 5he plugs get warm to the touch. Not hot just warm. They have a little metal conveyor that you put the bread on and it runs through the heat area. This is what you get when the socket and plug are both getting tired. Turn the toaster in your kitchen on and jam it so it can't shut off. These units run for hours at a time. A USED one cost $500.

I have seen a lot of them in restaurant kitchens. We used to get insulation fires in commercial dishwashing machines and booster heaters from the constant heat cool cycles of the water heaters cycling on and off, causing terminals to loosen up but I don't recall arcing.
