compression tool

I'm thinking I should have a compression checking tool, need advice on which one, or what
to look for, for a good one, doesn't need to be top of the line. I don't have access to a
tool truck, so I would need to either buy online or in a store....Thanks, Craig

Most any auto parts store like O'Reilly's or NAPA will have one for around $20 or so if not cheaper. Most stuff a hobby type guy does all they need is a good ball park figure to figure out if it has enough compression to do what it need to do

heres one from farm and fleet for about 40 dollars. has the adapters to do 10, 12, 14 and 18 mm plugs. most old tractors run the 18 mm plugs

I got a Bosch from O'riely's that cam with a whole bunch of adapters and stuff for $45. A little more then I wanted to spend on one but worth it in my opinion.

Farmall,

Many, many years ago I had a cheap one that you didn't screw down into the spark plug hole. It had a large rubber tip on it and you just pressed the tool down onto the sparkplug hole and somehow, either you or a helper, spun the engine over with the starter. It was a real pain-in-the-neck to operate. You definitely don't want one like that.

I recently bought a leak-down tester on eBay, it can also test compression. Was about $40, consider good used tools over cheap new.
