YT's Swap Giveaway Meet!

Hello,

Many times I read that someone has volunteered to give another member something for free. Last post I saw it is the one about the blown air cooled engine. More then one offer. Would it be a good idea to have a swap meet. But also make it a giveaway meet as well?
Many here have shown that it may work. Organizing location I know it must be done so as to maximize attendance. GUIDO.

That's an interesting idea. May be hard to do with members scattered all around the country. Could we get a forum on here like looking to trade or free to a good home? Just the other day a fellow said he had trouble getting treated sweet corn seed and have some left over. I say let's try.

Honestly? I think things are just fine the way they are. A person posts on a topic and someone else decides he needs something that they have to give away or sell affordably. Contacts are either made on the forum, but usually off. Seems good enough to me. That way it is like a gift out of the blue. I have had some nice encounters with forum folk under those circumstances.

Somewhere along the 127 Yard Sale in August? A fair number of us go. Runs 690 miles through Michigan,Ohio,Kentucky,Tennessee,Georgia and Alabama. Is that enough of a central location?

Some of us already get together for lunch or supper.

i agree dave. i hepled out a couple fellow ytrs so far. gave super 99 a couple of tires off a w-4, gave gene in mo a 120 gallon air compressor tank, and brad up in new york came down and picked up an old fork lift i no longer needed. somehow, i have a propensity to collect things. my wife thinks i am a hoarder, but she doesnt understand i only save good junk!!!

Hello rrlund,

I clicked on the link, and its not what I mean. I have things I would just give away or possibly barter to make tbe reciepient feel good about it. No money exchanged and YT members only!. Everyone here puts in time and effort to help posters, me included. That would be nice if could be done that way. Many are here to save money and share knowledge. Just from Alabama to Maine it would take a few locations, maybe can be done?

Guido.

Hello Dave H (MI),

I would like to see no money exchanged at all! Give away to someone who needs what you bring, and accept barter if needed or offered,

Guido.

You could do like a bunch of us here in Michigan do. We meet up at shows. Oakley is the big one for us gathering here. Some of the other shows too,but the numbers are lower. If folks had something to swap, they could bring them along to shows and trade them in the parking lot. My wife has even suggested a pot luck dinner at some of the shows for all of us that show up.
You might want to expand on something like that. I see where you're going with it,but geography stands in the way of too large a gathering.

Hello rrlund,

I would think even state wide or two or three would possibly work? I would think most can handle that kind of drive. Not many can drive hundreds of miles one way, unless the could make it a vacation time. Nothing wrong with potluck either! Lets see what developes?

Guido,
When I want to get rid of something, I post it on craigslist for Free.

I've given away kittens, old tractor tires people wanted for kids sandbox, car tires that were old yet had some good tread. The one that blows my mind is used carpet I remove from rentals. I don't want it anymore, but those that take it say it better than what I have.

Helping hands is an organization the sisters from St Marry's College run. It like a Goodwill. I take them things tenants leave behind. They take dirty dishes, clean them up and sell them cheaper than Goodwill. They are located at a very poor part of the county. They clean dirty clothes. They are happy I bring them things instead of sending crap tenants leave behind.

When the people that know me, always asks if I have something for their old tractors, or lumber, or metal, electric wire. If I have it, I give it away. They return the favor by always dumping off their junk and I store it in a warehouse.
Yesterday I was looking for a 1/4 hp fan motor. I know the right person to ask, Yep I have a new one in a box. He wouldn't take a dime for it. It's like the guys I hang around with just pay it forward. BYW I had to adjust the pressure switch on his air compressor. It wouldn't shut off before the relief valve popped off.

This is how my dad, a farmer, did things. If another farmer needed something, you just did it not expecting to get paid. You just paid it forward.

Hello larry@stinescorner,

My most valuable item I have is a 9000 watts Winco generator. I offered it to a member here who REALLY needed it but was unable to come and get it. He was a couple hours from me? It only needs an air cleaner assy and some TLC. 66 amps @ 120 volts, and 33 amps @240 volts. Still here unused and runs once a week or two,

Guido.
