120 Volts D/C A/C DeWalt Saw

Hello,

I ran across this saw that will work on both voltages. The battery pack is a 60V pack that can be put together to get 120 volt. It also will run a 20 volt De Walt tool as the smart battery will power it with 6 amp hour battery. A nine amp hour battery is supposedly in the work,

I have seen plenty of drills and grinders built to run off the 120 volt DC on older engine driven welders.
Can't think of any mobile welders that have need for a wood saw but who knows.
Suppose you could series connect ten 12 volt batteries to run it off grid if you did not have an inverter.

Hello determined,

If some one is using cordless De Walt tools already and needs a battery one it sounds powerful enough to meet most needs. It also comes with 120 A/C cord so it can be plugged in where A/C is available,

Guido.

Generally, tools with motors that have brushes AND a simple on/off switch will run on DC as well as AC.
Grinders, drills and saws are the most common.

Hello Tramway Guy,

It obviously has an universal motor so can be powered a/c or d/c. For the money though ($799.99) I would hope it is a brushless motor as well,

Guido.

Hello Tramway Guy,
Amazon has it for 1/2 that price of the magazine article? $399.99

Guido.

I was going to suggest that maybe it used a universal motor until I saw that it was brushless.

The brushless motor has an electronic controller on it that is fed by a rectifier, which changes AC into DC. If it's set up that way it can run off either DC or AC.

Hello BarnyardEngineering,

Sounds right to me that it is set up that way. I was surprised at the price difference. The add had it for
$800. While Amazon listed it for $400? Kind of out of bound difference in price!

Guido.

Seen one of those at Home Depote last weekend. Made me think of the day 20 years ago at the shop table where somebody was talking about upgrading from a 7.2V to a 9.6V drill. I told them, someday there will them thar new fangled high powered 120V power tools.
They did not catch onto the idea that manufacturs would just keep uping the voltage to keep re-selling another line of tools, chargers and batteries . Nor irony of someday being 120V on battery instead of 120V on an extension cord.
