Homelite chain saws

Homelite XL12 and super XL Automatic oiler Both of these saws leak fuel from the bronze vent filter in the fuel cap. I understand that their should be a duck bill vent installed in these fuel caps. I have seen some of the duck bill on line for sale but can't picture how they fit or stay in the fuel cap. If anyone is familiar with these please let me know how the attach. Thanks

Yeah, they just slip over the pressure hose coming from engine block . They do seem to fall off after time or a good pop of engine starting. I've tied them on with very small wire..it seems to help.

Angle Iron,Is there a hole in the fuel cap for a duck bill or is it the one on the gas tank just sticks in the hole, located on the side of the tank up at the top.
Here is a 5 pack

en N MS from what I understand there is no vent in the tank just in the fuel cap, these duck bills are the ones I have looked at.

Bob Bancroft I will look into the removal of the brass filter and see if that is the case with these. Are the duck bills that Den M MS linked the right ones?

(quoted from post at 06:31:09 01/10/17) Hard to tell size by looking at the picture. As I recall, the Homelite duckbill was about 1/8" diameter.
hanks for now, I will look into it later on today and ley you know what I find. What you are saying makes sense in so much as I have looked at several on line new old stock and used and all are like mine with no duck bill in sight.

I removed the brass vent filter and found the melted gloppy remains of the duck bill vent where you said it would be, thanks . I have ordered the ones off e bay I believe they were 5 for around $11.00. Will update when they come in if I can remember that long.

Avoid ethanol fuels in your mix. If the duck bills are old stock or not made to tolerate it, ethanol can turn them into gummy worms.

I only need 2 for now so will test one. It doesn't usually take long to start getting soft or sticky if they can't take it. I try really hard to not use ethanol fuel in any 2 stroke stuff and normally have little to no trouble. Both these saws were gifted to me as non runners by people who know I play at fixing small engines as a hobby. Some work out some do not
