Just don't get an oiless. They don't stand up to heavy use. If you want more advice jut ask away.

I was told one time to be wary of the compressors that are made of aluminum. Look for one made of cast iron. I really do not if that is true or not. I think most of the components of an air compressor are all made in the same factory in China, so the brand name on the compressor really doesn't mean very much. The Kobalt brand is probably as good as any. I doubt if Lowe's would market it if there was any major quality issues.

I already knew not to get oiless, heard to many horror stories. As far as model #, it's black. Just wanting feedback on the general quality of the entire line. Thanks again,

I've owned a couple of the Kobalt brand air hoses for several years now. These are the air hoses that are self-coiling. I use them and abuse them and no problems.

I have never owned a Kobalt compressor so can offer no first hand advice but I did research many brands recently before buying my second Polar Air (Eaton) unit.

The Kobalt units appear to be comparable to the IR, Dewalt, etc. units offered by TSC, Orschleins, etc.

If buying such a compressor I would likely rely on the warranty and reputation of the store more than the manufactures reputation.

I have a Lowe's 5 hp 60 gallon vertical tank compressor. It has an aluminum pump. I have had it 10 years and it has never missed a beat.

If you want a 5 hp or so compressor you owe it to yourself to check out made in USA Quincy. They are a little more money but are bullet proof.

I don't care what brand it is if the lines don't screw into the head run, don't walk away from it. Friend has a Coleman and the pressure line has a flat face with a gasket. It leaks like a sieve and I can't find a gasket for it. Also has an aluminum head and fitting so it warped.

Just because a compressor has one name on it doesn't mean all they sell are made by the same company. You would be surprised how many different names are on compressors made by Campbell Hausfeld.

They are average. Finger valves and splash lubed. 3500 rpm motors and pump speed of about 1000. You cannot run them non-stop for hours and hours, they need to cool down some. What does this all mean? They'll do for a home shop, but they are not commercial grade units.
