Crazy Euro regulations

We ordered some "M5 cage nuts" from a major electronics distributor to be used in the assembly of electronic racks we build. This was the response we got today:

"On your PO number 11503, for part number M5-CNSTNZ25, this part is coming from Europe. Due to legislation in Europe, they cannot knowingly or [b:0b69786412]willingly export parts that may go into any phase of the production of missiles, nuclear devices, or weapons of mass destruction.[/b:0b69786412]

Please fill out the attached Word document, and forward it back to us.

Thank you."

The "form" required us to specify the End User (our customer) and have them fill out and sign a separate EUU ("End User Undertaking") form with a hand signature (no electronic signatures allowed). No way we'll do that.

.... We cancelled the order... and got them somewhere else. Anyone want to argue about over-regulation?

(quoted from post at 13:35:55 12/09/16) The US has the same regulations for anything that might be Nuclear related.

Ok, should have said "Crazy [b:b9680bfaf2]government [/b:b9680bfaf2]regulations" so as not to offend the Europeans. But at the end of the day...it's a nut, a fastener:

My point is that there should be some common sense involved.

Europe [u:734aa0013b]has[/u:734aa0013b] gone crazy .

My family hales from there and I have visited a number of countries a few times over the last five years .

Ridiculous legislation from Belgium is running riot, some places I used to know well are now unrecognisable , one case in particular sounds like an urban myth or bad joke .

Bananas , yes those yellow things you peel, are according to EU legislation, not allowed to be sold if they have too much of a bend in them !

If you think you have trouble with nuts then pity the poor members of the EU and buy local , if you still can .

Government regulation. Sounds like an oxymoron. You got it right. That
most likely why Britain left and now Italy wants to leave. All
regulation does is strangle progress and industry. SOME regulations
are good but when you even try to tell people how and where to
poop....that is just the limit.

I guess they have to create the job of 'banana bend inspector' to make sure everyone is in compliance.

It seems that this legislation was too much even for the idiots in Belgium .

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/2453204/Bent-banana-and-curved-cucumber-rules-dropped-by-EU.html

It was finally repealed [ oh a pun , Ha Ha !]
The real worry is that it ever came into being in the first place .
God help the world if the EU continues on its path of self destruction . Thank God the likes of the US and Aus are remote enough and smart enough to rule themselves .
