Welder for a 7000 watt generator

I am thinking about getting a 7000 watt/9000 watt (peak) generator to use around the farm and home. What would be a good welder for such a size machine if I want to make a portable welder for welding on cow pens etc. I am open to either stick or wire welders but would prefer stick if possible but I do not think I would have enough power for a small stick welder. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

TF,I have ran my L-tec 225 wire feed welder With a 7000 watt generator on 220 volt to do several remote welding jobs in the past and it worked real good.I have even used a 5000 watt generator on 220 volt to run it before, with no problems on lighter materials like pipe gates ect.

When running a welder from a generator you will get more bang for the watt if you have an inverter welder vs. a transformer based unit. It takes a bigger generator to run a transformer based welder. I have a Honda EU6500i inverter generator that I use as a whole house emergency generator. I have also used it to power my Longevity StickWeld 250 inverter-based stick welder. With 6013 rod I am able to dial it up to right around 200 AMPS and still stay just within the generators maximum rating.

what if you looked at a combination welder/generator? Something like the " Miller Bluestar" series, 5000/7000 watts 200 amp welder combination unit, They come with either a Honda or Khroler engine, with both 120 and 220 outlets.
Lincoln also has a combination generator/welder unit avaiable in diesel in the range you thinking of, i think

Buy the welder/Generator combination from Miller or Lincoln,
And be done with it.
Most of the general models are 225 amp welder 10K gen. set.
Gas or Diesel.
