Old Nuts vs New nuts

I'm looking at 5/8-11 nuts, the old ones off my 1940 tractor take a 1-1/16 wrench whereas new nuts take a 15/16 wrench. Are there two standards and is there a name for the larger nuts and are the larger ones still available?

McMaster.com has both 15/16" and 1-1/16" hex sizes. ....The larger hex are named "extra-wide" in the McMaster listing.

I have heard the larger size also called "heavy nuts."

Look up wheel nuts. 5/8-11 wheel nuts are 1 1/16 across the flats. You can buy them at about any good heavy truck part supplier.

As others have said, they are normally called heavy hex nuts. Right, or wrong, I've always called them barn door nuts.
