winch remote

I have a small harbor freight winch. When using it, it won't stop when you release the button for a few seconds. It has got me in trouble a few times because I can't take the winch up just a little. Is there a way to wire it up with wire and some switches to have more control over it?

Mine does the same thing. I added the ATV hard-wired switch that typically mounts on the handle bars of the ATV. Just plugged in between the winch controller and the radio unit. I mounted it next to the winch on the trailer frame, so just run the winch with the remote until close then use the mounted switch the last bit. Much better control.

I have not used mine yet other than to test that it works, Yep it has about a one second delay. It came with a hand held manual switch I only plan on using the remote if I have to drive something on the trailer.

I finally figured out how to wire up a wired remote. Only thing is with the winch plugged into the power and ground plug from the truck the wireless remote works good but the wired remote won't work without running another ground back to truck. Don't understand that.
Anyway my wireless remote has a 3 second delay. The wired remote is instant when I let go of the switch. Why the delay in wireless.

Last Christmas eve, a farmer got stuck coming home from shopping in town.
His winch was tied to a tree to pull him out, but it broke. He was stuck there all night, and had to wait for help.

IT was the wench that destroyed Christmas.

I used my HF 12K winch today it worked great. "TIP" don't leave the remote in your pocket. I laid under the front of the truck I was locking down and the winch went to working. I had already tied the rear down so it just put it in a bind.

It was nice to be able to drive the vehicle while winching it on the trailer.
