Thanks again to everyone you stepped up to help me on this. I confess I was hesitant to buy a new charger w/o confidence that the batteries were still good since they are getting on. So, I finally remembered that the DeWalt rotating laser level had a battery and charger. I grabbed them from the farm this afternoon. I used the laser charger to charge the laser battery first to make sure all was well. It was. Next I used the laser charger with a drill battery and it seems fully charged as indicated by the lamp in about 20 min. And the answer is that the original charger was clapped out.

I bought a dewalt self leveling rotating laser years ago. The first thing I did was give my son the 14.4 v Ni Cd battery and charger to by boy, he had a drill he could use it in.

If I recall, the charger that came with mine, was black and only good for Ni-cds. Not to mention it will cook the battery, it never shuts completely off like the newer dewalt yellow ones will .

I love this long distace guessing, don't you? They are a one hour chargers so was an easy guess.
