A while back someone posted about buying a Shop Vac and wanted a recommendation. I have been looking for that post and cannot find it. Can anyone help?

We've been using Crafstman, the red and black plastic tub type. They see really bad conditions, liquids, metal chips. Good suction, long lasting, easy dump, consumables available..

I've tried Rigid from HD, was not happy with the performance. Some come with the tool caddy attached to the tub, real problem when going to dump it. Everything has to be unloaded, then the bracket is in the way.

We purchased a craftsman several years ago and then later I read one of those consumer reports and they found two of the Craftsman models had very good ratings. We have the smaller one of the 2 and have been happy with it for around the house.

(quoted from post at 16:42:51 11/13/16) Rigid shop vacs are guaranteed forever to the original purchaser/

I had one die on me, less than a year old. Tried to get Rigid to take care of it, they referred me to a local guy who fixed Rigid tools. He was working out of his house. I called him, he could not help me, because he was not authorized to fix the vacs. He said he would try, if I called Rigid, and got him authorized. I did, but they simply referred me back to him. I called the local guy back, and he told me he had no "pull" at all at HQ. He said others had tried, and nobody could get him authorized to fix vacs. Without the ok, he would not get paid. Home Depot was useless, they will not do anything for repairs. I had the guy fix a drill for me, but it died again a week later.

I threw the drill and the vac away. They are apparently throw away tools, and the guarantees are virtually worthless. I wont buy another Rigid anything.

I like craftsman with a big hose. Things are less kikel to get stuck. Also like to remove motor and use as a blower. Not sure you can do that with all shop vacs.

I had Rigid and Craftsman and the Rigid was loud . That is a sign of a clogged filter but it was loud with a new filter too.

I own a Shop Vac, and take good care of it, and it takes good care of me,20 years. Just saying. You get what you pay for

2510,

I have personally witnessed multiple vacuums operating in similar environs....

The Rigid brand lasted weeks of nearly uninterrupted operation, quieter, and still operable.

I have no horse in this race, just an observation.

J C Penny, bought a 10 -12 gallon one back around 1976 still going strong, replaced one hose still using the 1 1/4" hose and one of two 2" hoses
now use filter bags in it all the time, didn't use to and had to hold hose over the outlet when first starting up to catch all the dirt coming out
plenty of drywall dust has been run through it.
been wanting it to fail for the last twenty years so I could get a new fancy one on wheels, new hoses, etc
