cordless screwdrivers

I am in the market for a replacement cordless screwdriver. My old skil twist was handy back in the day, but cooked it's battery, years ago. I want one for occasional use on receptacle mounting screws, and wall board toggles. The old Skil Twist, was geared slowly, and had sufficient power, and was controllable. What is available today, and also might last awhile??

I have a Milwaukee m4 It can be used as a straight driver or pivot the handle for a pistol grip it works for me. I have had it 3yrs now with no trouble I use it at work for 8-32,10-32 and 1/4-20 socket head cap screws. I use ball end hex bits but you can get about any driver bit you want.

I have been using a Black and Decker LI4000 for about 4-years now. It is geared slow and has a lot of torque. The Lithium Ion battery lasts a long time and holds a charge for months when not in use. It is around $27 at Amazon.

I agree, I have several and when the battery dies I crack open the top of the case and replace them with cheap Chinese NiCds and I'm good to go for another 3 years or more.

I got rid of my DeWalts and bought Hitachi 12 volt drill/driver and Impact driver with LI-ON batteris. Batteries are holding up good and drill & driver meets my needs. Both drill and driver fit my hand better than any drill of that size that I have tried. At my age, I don't care to lug around a heavy 18 volt that I don't really need; the 12 volts will do everything that I need to do.

Thanks Flembo, the milwaukee is more money than the b&d, but it's straight design, is more like the skil twist, and more like what I wanted.

Thanks jgayman! Due to it's cheap price, of $26.00, I think I will buy one and try it. I am definitely, going to get a straight screw driver also. If Flembo is correct, in his acessment of the one he has, then $66.00 would be worth it, and I can always fall back on the cheap one, if I need to.

Home Depot just set up their holiday gift land, they have a lot of interesting tools that would meet your needs at some decent prices. Royobi has quite a selection of gadgets that run on their battery systems as well as other brands. Consider getting into one of the new cordless tool systems and you'll not only have your cordless screwdriver but a variety of lights, saws, fans, blowers and vacuums available for your use. The maintenance techs I had working for me would grab a battery powered shop vac and a cordless drill and use the vac to catch the shavings from the drill when they were working in offices and such, no one had to clean up the mess they didn't make!

My sons Dewalt will run circles around my Milwaukee and Porter Cable and the battery last about double per charge for the same size 18 volt lithium ion. We used all 3 this spring to do 3 metal roofs. Ran close to 10,000 screws along with drilling holes and running power shears. Wish all 3 were Dewalt.
