water in basement

I have a crack in the wall of my unfinished basement that used to weep just a bit when there was a big rainstorm. Two nights ago there was a storm and a small puddle appeared on the floor by the crack. While the crack is hairline and goes from the floor to about 6 feet up, only the bottom one foot leaks. So, what is the best way to fix this mess???

The really best fix is to put in a footing tile, inside or out.
There is a product that like mortar/concrete that you mix with water to make a putty and trowel into the crack and it expands and seals the crack. You can patch a crack/hole even when water is flowing threw the crack and it will stop the flow.
I think it's caller hydraulic cement.

Had this problem in my folks house. The block wall was filling up and the best fix was to deal with the water outside of the wall. The house was built before drain tile was common used around the perimeter of the foundation. Look for a path that the rainwater is taking to get to the wall. You may not have to dig down to the footer if you can divert the flow away. Is the rain running downhill into the basement wall outside?

Ditto on Married2Allis suggestion.

If the walls are seeping it's best to get the surface water flowing away from the walls before it can soak into the soil. Check that water does not flow towards the foundation or pool near the foundation. An extra six inches of dirt around the perimeter sloping out 4 to six feet or more helps a lot. Extend down spouts to ten feet or more away from the house. Look for plugged gutters and down spouts that can dump water next to the foundation. Make sure all water flows away from the foundation, especially near any cracks in the foundation.

If water is seeping up from the floor, a drain tile and sump pump may be needed.

I had poured walls done on my basement, dip stick drove a dozer close to the back wall before the house was on top and cracked it in two spots. used some stuff called Dam tite it's like paint has kept dry for the last 15yrs.

I used a product named Kryton. It's a powdered mix but dries very fast. When I had water running through the cement I pushed it in the crack dry and within seconds it sealed and hardened immediately...stayed sealed for the remaining 21 years we were at that place. All the other posts here about getting the water away from the wall is right on.

Thanks guys for all the help, I went to Lowe's and looked at hydraulic cement. Good stuff, smallest amount was 10 pounds. Went to Home Depot, same thing, clerk looked it up and sure enough, 10 pound pail is the smallest they sell. I bought it, but I only need about 2 cups of the powder. Got enough now for several lifetimes.
Again thanks
