Cleaning paint off of brick

You would have to be very careful but paint and varnish would do it. If you got the stripper on your painted wood you would end up having to paint again. Use a semi-paste remover so it would cling to vertical surfaces.

had a gallon of Cat yellow dropped on my front stoop made of pavers--hot water pressure blast--3500 psi--got it off

I did that last summer, tripped and dumped a whole gallon of OIL BASE white paint on brick steps!! Stupid move. Used a 3100 psi power washer and spray paint stripper. Still a trace left. A heated power washer would have done better. But latex may be easier.

Cheap oven cleaner works on most fresh latex. Spray it on, cover with plastic wrap to keep it wet so it works better. Pressure wash if you have one. Otherwise, stiff brush and garden hose. Pressure washer MUCH preferred.

Stripper, Goof-Off, oven cleaner, depends on how porous the brick is.

Be careful with the pressure washer, it will defiantly take out the mortar and may discolor the brick. I did that getting graffiti off the brick at church. It was black spray paint though, never did get it all off and the color of the brick is forever lighter where it was blasted.

DO NOT SAND BLAST!!! You will remove the surface "glaze" from the brick. It will absorb water and crumble after a few years. Have you ever seen them " restoring" an old brick building downtown with a sand gun ? Look at that building in a few years as the exterior is flaking off and generaly looks like crap. I made runners for my driveway out of bricks I scrounged. Two or three had little chips or such. One or two winters and those bricks turned to bri k collor corn flakes.

Clay brick are hard all the way through. You described sand brick.
I put 25000 clay brick on my house. Had to cut them with a diamond saw blade and sparks would come off blade if I didn't keep it wet.
