Oxy-aceteylene torch

I put together a "set" from scrounged parts. It is a small Victor torch. When I put on a large heating tip, all is well. When I put on the cutting torch, light the acetylene, OK so far, When I start the Oxygen, it burns until I try to adjust the flame, then it pops like a machine gun,and goes out, or one pop and it's out. I'm thinking the regulators, and mixer are OK, because there is steady burn with the heating tip. I can't SEE any problem with the torch parts. Any ideas?

x & Acety are mixing too far upstream....check for good mating surfaces or if present on that model, O-rings.

Pull the cutting tip off the torch head and check the seat. If its all carboned up, time for a rebuild of the cutting head seat and a new tip.

You can polish all of the tip and connector seats with 0000 steel wool. And as mentioned before, check for missing or broken O rings. It really sounds like a leak.

Just thinking, make sure you have those one way check valves in the lines! As others have said, leaks and crud.

REPAIR REPORT, Two O-rings on the mixer connection, and a different tip, Now it works good. Thank you all for the help.
