(quoted from post at 04:29:53 10/25/16) I have one that has two different size grooves and two scales on the face for checking starter and alt/gen output. I use it a lot.

Hello Mike(NEOhio),

Those gauges are really handy for spot checking. I won't admit their ages though. I guess you can still buy them? Probably not. 25 cents at a yard sale after I'm gone......

Guido

Guido,
I'll give you $.50 each and freight. Can't beat doubling you money can you? Good find. I'm not a yard sale person.

i have an old Mac tools gauge similar to those and it was used to find shorts. Basically you ran gauge down the wire and the needle would point one way or the other until you found the center of a short, bad connection or broke wire

Hello 4play,

I used one of those when I worked at the Dodge Dealer. A compass would do the same thing,

Guido.

Hello Geo-TH, In,

You are not paying attention are you? It is not what I posted. Actually I bought them when I worked at the Dodge dealer, which I left in 1965,

Guido.

Hello tractorguy2,

I guess it is show and tell time? HA HA. How long have you had them? Mine are pretty old!!!!.
Must people don't know that such tool even existed,

Guido.

Guido,
I thought from the post you got them for $.25 at yard sale, guess I was confused. Offer still stands, I'll still give you $.50.

Geo

Well that explains the mechanism:

From the www (or EE handbook or several other sources): "When electricity flows in a long straight wire it creates a circular or cylindrical magnetic field around the wire according to the right-hand rule. The conventional current, which is the opposite of the actual flow of electrons, is a flow of positive charges along the positive Z-axis.
Right-hand rule - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-hand_ruleWikipedia"

The needle, or something internal attached thereto, is ferrous and it and the visual scale are calibrated to the strength of the magnetic field created by the amount of current flowing through the wire inserted into the slot. Pretty simple gadget.

I must have half a dozen of them. Delco, Snap on, and Blue Point among others. Find them at the flea markets on a table. Can be from $2.oo all of the way to 20 for the snap on. It was brand new. Handy for finding a power problem on a garden tractor. Stupid problem..but found it. Just don't drop them.

Hello jeffcat,

Berlin Action? HE! HE!. I have had them since the sixties have not dropped them yet.
I may visit Berlin action this coming week. I am looking to replace foam insert for a couple of chairs,

Guido.

Go visit Sams. Take your old cusion covers with you. They have a gizmo to stick the foam in. Oh, wash them first.

Hello jeffcat,

My cushions have a zipper so it should be easy. Have not been, at the auction, for years. I will have to make a trip to new jersey any way, so I'll stop in. I did go to school with John Stella. He wanted to learn refrigeration for the farm had plenty of it. We actually toured the refrigerated units as a class trip. I am not telling what year though,

Guido.
