Anyone happy with Windows 10

I'm just wondering seem like this thing has a mind of it own and try's to sync up with other devices phones and computers in the areas your email. Seems like a severe security risk but at the very least a PITA you turn off programs only to find it has turned them back on. I constantly restore to factory disabling the 1670 update Anyone else having issues. If so what have you done or what can be done.
Thanks BYron

Bhunt,

Plenty unhappy here. Laptop quit finding the SD card. Have to troubleshoot and restart every time I want to see the game camera photos.

Hate it!!!

Bought a new laptop this year and it's a windows 10 machine. Even though it has a better processor, more memory, and a fast graphics card it's one of the slowest machines in the office. I have been trying to work with it so I can figure it out but it stinks.

Recently built 3 windows 7 machines and donated them to the local animal shelter. One of the volunteer workers loaded win 10 on one of them and it froze up and would not run. Had to wipe out the drive and do a fresh install of 7 64 bit. Naturally that clears out all the software and settings.

I can't understand what Microsoft is thinking when they release this stuff that's obviously worse than the previous version. Makes me want to start looking at Apple!

......and they really want people to buy it! Was at computer store Saturday & the same computers with WIN10 are priced lower than with WIN7!!!! :x

I have no problems with Windows 10. I have not lost any pictures or software or emails. Haven't noticed any operating issues either. If you want the appearance of Windows 7 or XP download "Classic Shell". It's a free download. My complaint is with Apple and their latest upgrade for the Iphones. My phone has never been the same since and I can't find any way to revert back to prior the upgrade.

I hated it at first and might a tad every now and then now. Every time they send an automatic upgrade I have to learn some part over again. I have not lost anything but sometimes it takes some time to figure out the new way to get at it. Pictures mainly! The last upgrade they stuck an ASK me anything deal and keep reminding me I haven't turned it on.

I have a laptop and a desktop which both qualified to have the free upgrade. I decided to try i on my laptop and did not like it one bit. To me MS made it more difficult to accomplish tasks in win10. Win 7 was an easier OS to negotiate so I rejected the free upgrade and stuck with win 7.

I recently installed it on my laptop that had XP. Since I knew I had to do a clean install (no upgrade possible for XP or Vista) I
took the opportunity to install an SSD first (figured if all went wrong I could put the old drive back in and nothing would change).
The install went real smooth and the computer is blazing fast now. Some features are a minor irritation and my biggest complaint is
that the mouse #4 and 5 buttons don't work on Edge. Reinstalled all my files just fine. Naturally lost all my apps that came with the
computer but have been trying some of the 'Suite' programs and while I've only started they seem to be working so far albeit with a
learning curve. I was careful during the installation of just about everything to choose 'custom install' to be sure to leave out all
the "extra" junk I didn't want or never use. So far so good.

I bought a new computer back in the Spring had Windows 10 installed on it by a professional computer guy and its worked flawlessly so far.Think most people are having problems because they want to jackleg it.Took my fellow about an hour or more to set it all up best $100 I've spent in a while.

happy or not.. most computer stuff is going toward the "ipad" "iphone" look. Like it or not.. WIndows 8 made the
jump and alot of people didnt like it so 10 comes out and kinda combines the 8 and 7 and even xp to some degree.
Figure they hope to EASE people into it instead of the 8 which slammed it in your face.

I didnt like it at first. I dont have a iphone, but I do have a ipad and love the ipad. So after getting ipad the
windows 10 makes since.

my two cents..

From my prospective Windows 10 is a POS. I do embedded systems programming and simply hate all the "Microsoft knows better than you do" crap they put in 10. If you don't mind spending hours finding and changing settings (that were much easier to locate in 7) you cam make it work but for me Windows 7 will be what I use till I'm dead and buried.

Yep this computer is new it came with windows 10 installed on it
edge try's to install all kinds of new programs that each share information with not less than 4 or 5 other programs but wants as well to connect to other computers and cellphones it wants to connect with your email account. You turn off the programs only to find it has done a auto update reinstalling these programs overnight what a pain. This is a very dangerous process sharing information with so many programs. I have deleted all the programs that it would let me wish it would let me delete edge entirely. I hate it but what can you do

All of my newer computers are just fine. 5 years old or less. Most of the older computers are ok... Some of my really old computers did not and will not take the update.

If you have a very very SLOW old computer, running windows 10 is a mistake. Running anything other than dos is a mistake...

I bought a new desktop with Windows 10 on it and I hated it. I took the unit back and returned it within the return period.

Then, as I've said before on this forum, I bought a new, blank 1Tig hard drive, a Windows 7 installation disc, and a 4Gig memory card. I then built my own computer out of spare parts. The upshot is, I now have the equivalent of a new desktop with a 1Tig hard drive and 4 Gigs of RAM. All for less than $200. And it's not preloaded with all sorts of junk I'll never use. There's not one thing on the hard drive that I didn't personally put there for a purpose.

This one worked so well, I built another like it and put it in my shop.

I do have a hard drive with 10 on it that I stuck in in an old junk computer. I'll play with it sometime and see if I can get used to 10.

I have it at work and a couple of computers at home. Haven't had any problems other than learning to navigate within it. I am mad at Windows 10 because they eliminated the chess game I played a lot. I got it
back once but they did an update a couple of weeks ago and wiped it out again. They've got other stupid games available but nothing an adult would play.

(quoted from post at 00:03:06 Well Goose now that's a thought Ill have to look at after I get this tractor up and running. I only posted this because the computer company ask me to do a survey today and boy did I let em have it.

The 10 update is not a big deal to me, I like it. The big deals seemed to be the 95 and XP versions, do you remember those? I think just about everyone hated to see those two go away.

If you want simple functioning and mainly mess around with stuff online, you might consider or look at chrome books. This is especially true if you like google chrome or have a Google/android phone or tablet. They work the best while connected to the Internet, ts how most of the functions and apps work since a lot of its storage is in cloud type memory.

I really, really, really like Win10. I'm even in the Insider program, build 14951 right now, on this 9 year old computer and the newer laptop. It's fast and stable.

Win 8 was terrible and WIN 10 is even worst. I have found I just quit trying to use my computer for certain things. I used Quickens to keep my check book in for over fifteen years. Win 8 crashed the Quicken program I had. The version of Quickens I had/used would not work with anything newer than Win 7. So I tried an up dated Quicken program that would work with Win 8 or 10. I hated it. I also do not trust the security of it either. I think all this "Cloud" sharing makes it too easy for other to heck your data.

So I went analog on my check book record keeping. I bought a ledger book and went back to hand written record keeping. I no longer keep the farms books/checking account records so it is just my personal stuff. So not much activity compared to what it was.

I used Microsoft word a fair bit but the newer version is confusing for me so I deleted it and just write what I want down. If I want something typed I have one of the Grand Daughters do it.

I was fairly proficient with computers until Win 7 came out. Since then I just do not want to take the time and effort to relearn how to do everything on the new operating systems. So I am opting out. They can take their touch screens and cloud base stuff and STICK IT!!!!!

I do not own a smart phone. I do not own a phone with a touch screen. I do not own a laptop computer. So I will use this tower computer with Win 8 on it for the internet and little else. If it quits then I will go back to a land line and reading books. I am tired of companies shafting me/forcing me to change to "fit" their products. So I just refuse to do that anymore. If they want my Money they will have to offer something I want. Not some thing some 18 year old teeny bopper wants.

Maybe y'all would be happier with DOS 3.1.

As long as you hitch your horse to the Microsoft wagon, you don't have much choice. Upgrades are inevitable for reasons of security and hardware support. And "upgrade" doesn't always mean "better". I switched to Linux twenty years ago (from OS/2) and haven't looked back. I'll note that I've not been happy with all the "improvements" to my preferred Linux distribution, but it offers me the ability to switch desktop environments to get the look and feel I like, and I can always switch to a different distribution as well.

Have a local high schooler put Ubuntu, a Linux-variant operating system, on your computer. It's free, updates are free, and it's more secure than Windows. You can also put in on a computer that's too outdated for Windows and it will work fine. I've been using Ubuntu for over a dozen years. I haven't had a glitch in the system the whole time, despite it upgrading from version 8-something to now having 16.04.
Did I mention it's free?

IT STINKS!

If there's ever a class action suit against MS for dumping this unwanted virus in to computers,I'm joining it.

I'm using it and don't like it. I've had serious problems keeping it updated and found that I have to be extremely careful when change anything, like not having some shopping program (I refuse to call them "apps") not run at start up. I tried running that "classic shell" everyone talks about but I had to unload everything I'd put on and go back to an as issued condition. I much prefer Win 7 or, better yet, XP. Simple is good.

I have Win 10 at two jobs.

At job A: The computer is not quite two years old and in addition to downloading Win 10, we purchased MS Office 365... while there was a bit of a learning curve, I've adjusted and it all works flawlessly.

At job B: The computer is an older refurbished computer... and it seems that downloading Win 10 messed up a few things. It especially seemed to mess up my Outlook email program - which is really frustrating... but that might be because it's a really OLD copy of MS Office (the 97-2003 version of software).

I still have 7 at home and prefer it... but its days will come to an end as eventually MS will stop all support/updates for it.

Download and burn iso to DVD, then set laptop to boot from DVD. Install Mint. I really like the Cinnamon flavor.

Ditto. I have to use W10 at work. Computers at home are W7. New OS versions used to be evolutionary, improved over time. Now stuff gets changed for the sake of change and I spend a lot of time googling how I do things under W10 that were logical and easy to find under XP or even W2k.

(quoted from post at 11:17:21 10/25/16) The solutions to most problems and undesirable behaviors in Windows 10 are just a google search away.
It upsets me that MS will release a buggy OS and expect the users to fix their own problems. Or at least chase these problems rather than have a solid operating system that won't crash when the wind changes direction. Win 7, IMHO , was as close to perfect as MS could make it so why change???

Had it on two laptops. Nothing but problems. Saved all the info I wanted and did a clean install of Win 7. Both computers works great now. Nice thing is it got rid of all the extra stuff from the manufacturer. Much faster booting now.

I couldn't have said this any better no matter how hard I would try.

It is a dangerous world not only can they hack your computer and get to any Information you have but they can turn on your camera watch and even listen in on conversation's windows 10 is the most compromising systems yet. I caution you to be careful if you don't use the camera tape over the lens or delete it same for your speaker & record system turn it off if your not using it. at least delete the record Portion. Any cell phones with few exceptions or other computers in your home are at risk because windows 10 wants to link up with them don't do it. This is the biggest scam and security rick thrust on the unsuspecting public to date. This is my personal Opinion. But you feel free to what you want.

> I tried loading Linux Mint on my Win 10 laptop. Win 10 won't let it load.

The problem is probably not Windows, per se, but rather Secure Boot is enabled in the UEFI BIOS. Google "disable uefi secure boot", plus the brand of your laptop.

it is so disappointing that MS has released this botchup as the next generation of windows. I like to believe that every other version of windows is fatally flawed and it will be only a stepping stone to the next, hopefully good, version of windows. I stopped short of upgrading to win 10 on my desktop and laptop. maybe MS will give a good reason to upgrade for the next version.
