Cheapo air compressor pumps on ebay

Any one try one of the China made replacement pumps you can get for around 80 bucks? I came across an upright Black Max compressor with good motor and a ruined rod and crank in the compressor for 10 dollars. I don't really need it but would get it going just to have if I could do it for that kind of money. I did say "try one". Actually have one in use.

Try a Cast-Air pump, they also sell tanks. Good pump runs quiet and will give years of service. They are available in different sizes.

About a month ago I bought one of those off of Ebay. The only real problem I have had was the flare fitting it came with, already mounted on the pump, was some kind of odd sized, or maybe metric, thread. ONLY the nut that was on it would fit. I was going to put a better, more robust one on it and the threads don't match. So, I had to cobble and kinda rig a coupling so I could use existing tubing from my old one.

Once installed, it's been working pretty good. Don't know about longevity, but it pumps air, relatively quiet, and doesn't heat up a lot either.

I did put an extra check valve to add a little protection for leak down. So far it's been holding at my cut off pressure of 130psi just fine.

My compressor is/was not a commercial set up to start with. I have a one and a half horse electric motor with an old (never used for water) 50 gallon water heater tank. I have a regular pressure switch, on at 90 off at 130, with a dump valve, etc. My old pump finally gave up after being rebuilt twice in nearly 50 years.

My bottom line was simple: Never had more than $100 invested in a compressor that ran that long. Another $100 for a pump and accessories didn't look like a bad risk to me.
