Gas oven, gas valve and hot surf. ignitor question

Bought a used maytag (whirlpool) double oven gas stove. After installing the lower oven would not work---HSI glowing bright with no visible damage but won't activate gas valve. Top oven works ok.

Switched the HSI on the two ovens and now bottom oven works and top doesn't.

Is there a simple diagnostic to check HSI? What exactly allows the gas valve to open? I once had a stove with a cracked HSI and it still worked----a bit slow but it did work.

You change the hsi and that should do it. You can buy them on fleabay
for maybe $20.oo. The valve uses the current and voltage that goes
through the hsi. As it gets hot the 24 volts heating up the hsi the
amps increase as the resistance drops and allows enough amp "power" to
allow the coil on the gas solinoid to pull in and open. Some of our
equipment at work have systems like this. These are pretty damn near
goof proof and that is why they use them. You did a really go job with
the diagnosis!
