Drill press

I have inherited a large crAftsmann 1/2 inch 1/2 horse drill that I would like to covert into a drill press. Did crasftsmnn make a kit for the larger drills? I've seen them for 3/8 drills.

We had a Black and Decker version that held one of the old gear drive 1/2" drills with the octagon case. I'd watch Ebay, Craigslist, etc. They are out there but I imagine most have gone to scrap by now. Might check any old, 1960's or earlier, machine shops or garages in your area too.

I have 2 of them, but not sure what brands they are. Send me an email, and I will send you some pictures.

Why would you convert it? Sell it on ebay and take the money and buy a used drill press. They are typically under $50 at the online auctions. Often they want to give them away.

Yes, Craftsman made one, my father had one for the big ol' Milwaukee he had. Worked ok in wood & soft metals but if the bit started to bite the drill would twist in the frame slightly and head off at an angle, could break the bit or take a chunk out of the flutes. Usually pretty aggravating to use. He didn't buy a real drill press until after I moved out.

Here's a link to one that's been bouncing around for some time in our local Craigslist, though this one might be for 3/8" drills.
