5023 Dixon ZTR Lawnmower

I'm looking at the above 2002 model lawnmower. I understand they're a pretty good machine. Do any of you have personal experience with one? It's got a 23 hp industrial Kohler engine. Anything in particular to watch out for?

Not sure about your specific model, but we bought a Dixon back in '95, a smaller home duty model.

I ran that poor thing for years on 2 acres of rough terrain. Other than normal maintenance items, a set of belts, blades, tires and batteries, it never gave any problems at all! Sold it with the property a couple years ago, still ran like new after 19 years!

Dixon is out or going out of business. Parts are getting hard to find.

If it's the mechanical drive versus the Hydraulic drive, Run Away Fast. You will be in adjustment hell keeping the clutches adjusted. AAAnnnd parts are Expensive. I owned the smaller 30" version for maybe six years and then traded for some laber to fix a john deere 240 garden tractor mower, and I'm still using the John Deere. bjr

Had 2 for 20 years, worked them hard on rolling hills..

Only had to replace one friction ball and that was after 14 years of long hard use..

They were model # 424, 42" cut..the kids loved to run them..

Very Good machines..PLUS, you could ( maybe still can) get a complete replacement friction drive with all the updates for (at the time) just over $400.00

they were a good unit in their day, just slower and rougher riding. this unit should have the back half of body flips up correct. parts not issue husqvarna did away with the dixon name but is same unit and parts. if it has the kohler magnum engine those engines parts are harder to find. personally would choose ram series over the 5000 series hands down. what they asking if be snoopy cause you can be in a way better unit used for 1500 and only 5 years old, let me know if help have shed full of new and few used units. 54 cut unit for 1700 2 years old.
