Maytag clothes washer leaking water

The water is coming out of the diff user??? or whatever that thing is in the water line under the top and over the tub. I went to Sears parts dot com and the picture of the part was not available and so I am not sure what it is. Can you tell me what it does? Can I wrap it with a waterproof tape and use it the way it is? It is an old machine, but with as many people being unhappy with new machines, I hate to sent it to the scrapyard.
Thank you

Not exactly sure what you are talking about, do you have a water valve sononoid leaking? If it won't shut off it shouldn't be a big deal to find a new one.

I think I can picture what you are describing.

Is this the plastic piece where water comes from the solenoids and is brought up over the top of the tub? And the water is going on the floor instead of in the tub? And only leaks when the solenoids are on?

I had a Whirlpool that did that, a mouse chewed the hose. That is low pressure there, so anything you can do to direct the water to the tub should be sufficient. Depends also as to why it failed. If the plastic is crumbling, best find a new piece, which should not be a problem, lots of other sources other than Sears.

If it was chewed, or abraded, damaged by a one time event, then some epoxy or the tape you described should work.

Must be time, my Daughter just replaced it on her Maytag. Not sure what it does other than leak when it get's a hole in it. Local Maytag repair shop had 1 on the shelf. Not sure if it'd been setting there for awhile or if they're available.

Your part is known as the water injector. Inlet water is sent thru the little rubber boot located in a plastic (small box) and lets the water go into the tub.

McCombs Supply.com local appliance house for Maytag parts. Cost about 22.00

John PA I have to change mine about every 3 yrs.

Thank you, I will attempt to look up the part again and this time I will look for an injector in the description. I know they are not real expensive, but I definitely wanted to be able to order the correct part.
Thank you again
