Whirlpool Tubs

Remodeling a bathroom and the wife said the whirlpool tub has to go. Now it's sitting in the weeds upside down out of view in the backyard. Don't know what to do with it, I hate trying to sell stuff like that. It's an American Standard in good condition and has a good 3/4 hp 20 amp pump on it. But I don't see that anyone puts these tubs in bathrooms anymore. Seemed to be a fad in the 90's when they were popular. We used it a few times mostly to wash the dogs. LOL

If you just want to get rid of it, put it out by the street, someone will take it.

Or put in a free stuff ad on Craigslist.

I know exactly what you are talking about. We put one in when we built our house in 2003, and were still popular at the time, and our builder was installing in about every home he built back then (wonder how
many remain). Sounded like a great thing at the time until we found out how much hot water it takes to fill, and time to fill, etc. We even got the one with a heater, but soon found that the heater is only
good to keep water hot, not actually heat the water, and a huge mistake to try to get by with a small hot water heater. Just not practical at all. I think we might have used ours less than 5 times total in
about 5 years till we bought an old antique tub in very nice condition and I remodeled the bathroom to accommodate. I was able to sell the like new whirlpool tub, but took a pretty good loss to do so.
Advertise it locally, and someone will probably pick it up for a remodel or something if price is right.

Just the 3/4 hp motor has value.

Are those really a fad that has passed? I got a big bathroom prepped for one, 50 gallon water heater, all I need to do is buy it. I think I'll look for one like yours, a low use rip out to buy instead of new.

I should probably try to sell it on CL before the cold weather comes and some critter moves in underneath it for the winter!

my guess even a 50 gallon heater is marginal, and you would exhaust it to fill the tub. I would probably want a 60 gallon heater. I have a 40 gallon heater, which is fine for other use for us, but not near
big enough to use for filling the whirlpool tub, but ours was a fairly large corner tub, and with a smaller tub, you may get by with a 50 gallon heater. I now have an outdoor wood furnace which heats my
water, and when it is fired up, I never run out of 150 degree hot water. I love my outdoor wood furnace, but our beloved EPA apparently takes issue with them, as the model I have is now only available for
commercial use. Thanks EPA. Just another good reason we need some change in November. Oops, got off topic.

i have a 2 person corner unit jacuzzi tub in the basement bathroom. we did a basement remodel and added a third full bath. i have back problems and it really helps. nice too if you are out allday in the winter and froze solid. warms you up good. be sure to get the additional heater installed in the tub, keeps the water hot when running the air jets. i have a 50 gallon water heater and it does fine. tub holds 87 gallons.

We hated ours primarily due to health
hazard. Dirty soapy water always
remained in the pump pumbing and was
a problem to keep clean. We built a
new home with a large size regular
tup, much better.

If you really want to get rid of it but a for sale sign on it by next morning it will be gone and somebody is going to be bragging about the item that they just stole.

We built our house in 1999. Our master bath originally had a 36" shower and a large whirlpool tub. The tub was one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time, but we never used it. Catch 22 was when you were achy enough to really need it, you were too stove up to get in and out easily.

We remodeled within the last year. Took the whirlpool out, put a 46" shower in its place, and made a closet where the original shower was. Better use of space. If anyone insists they need a tub bath, our other bathroom has a tub/shower combo.

Built our house 13 years ago and had the big 2 person Aqua Glass whirlpool tub put in. Never again. Has to be CLEANED every time it's used. Soap scum in the jets aint cool in clean water.

As far as the water heater I got an 80 gallon.

Good Luck.
