The new angle grinder showed up yesterday

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions about what to get for a new 5" angle grinder. I did chose a Metabo, whether or not I made a good decision is still to be decided. LOL Makita is known to be a good brand of tool too.

Anyway, here is a pic of the good old Makita alongside the new Metabo. The Makita is a 9015B with a 12.5 amp draw. The Metabo is a WEV-1500-125RT with a 13.2 amp draw so the two are conceivable about even power wise. Two differences I see right away is the physical size and the angle of the handle sticking out of the side of the head. The handle on the Metabo is at a slight forward angle where the handle on the Makita is at a 90 degree angle. One thing I do like about the Metabo is the soft start. The Metabo is variable speed with a thumb control but I'll betcha 99% of the time the thumb wheel will be in the wide open position. Probably a lot of useless information here but I just thought I'd share what I ended up with.

I own an older 4" Makita, and a newer 4" Makita. The handle on the older grinder is straight, the handle on the newer grinder is angled, just like your Metabo.

I bought an old Black/Decker 5" over 25 years ago at a flea mkt. for $25. It's shaped like your new one, been used hard when it's been used and still going. Bought a new 4" Makita for a little lighter work, didn't like it and traded it for a Makita cordless impact, then bought a cheap Farm/fleet 4" angle grinder, used it a little too hard and had it smoking first time I used it but it healed up and still works good.

I got a 15 year old Metabo that is still going, its the first one I reach for. I got a few mediocre dewalts that are decent and one of the cheaper Makita models that sounds like it as about to swarm any minute, and just killed one cheap hitachi that lasted a whole six months. I hope that the new Metabos are built like the old ones, mine says "Made in Germany" I like it!
