Bought this personal pace recycler mower for 20 dollars not working I got it running but it hunts rising and lowering the speed no smoke. Then when I shut it off it will not start until it is cold again. model #20089 electric start. I'm thinking coil mag for the non start after warm any Ideas. I removed the main jet from the bowl and cleaned out the holes. No change anyone know if the carb itself could have passages that are clogged as well should it be removed and gone thru? Am I on the right track?
Any help and advice is appreciated

If it hunts with no load, I would start by cleaning the idle circuits in the carburetor.

Pull the air cleaner off so you can lay your hand over the air intake of the carb. Start it up and put your hand on the air intake just long enough to make it start to die then take it back off. Do tha ta few times and see if that stops the hunting of the carb/gov. Many time a small clog some place in the carb can be sucked out by doing that.

As for the no start once warmed up check that you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap. If you have a good spark try hand choking it and see if it starts tha tway

The surging and hard start are both symptoms of too lean.

That model used several different carbs, I assume fighting the problems you are having.

When you cleaned the main jet, did you scrape it out with a thin wire? My theory is the evaporating ethanol builds a coating inside the jet that air and chemicals won't remove. I don't know if that carb has an idle circuit, probably not. If yes, by all means flush it out with spray carb cleaner, be sure you can see cleaner come through the jets (the tiny holes beside the throttle plate).

Those carbs are available new on Ebay for very reasonable costs, $13-$26 usually. If you get tired of dealing with it, that is always an option. Shop carefully though, compare the pictures, especially the holes and channels in front where the primer puffs in the air. If yours has a choke plate, be happy!

Plugged idle circuit. You may or may not be able to clean out the passages with a fine wire. Plan B is to replace the carb.

I will check it out I did notice that if I put my thumb slightly over the intake on the carb it would run fine. Is it an issue running it without the filter to evaluate it that is it wouldn't surge because of to much air I didn't get the filter or the cover with it but there cheep on ebay.
Thanks Byron

Yes it does hunt with no load I'm fixing to take the carb off and check out the idle Circuit Yea I just tried covering the carb intake like we used to do some of the truck and car carburetor's to clean them out no luck.
Thanks Byron

Some of the newer engines are made to run lean and with out an air cleaner on them they will in turn run way to lean and cause problems like your having

My Cub Cadet leaf vacuum/chopper/bagger would start on the first pull every
time when cold but when hot would not start at all. Found another spark
plug in the junk box, now it starts every time hot or cold.

I will let ya know how it goes
Thank you all Byron

(quoted from post at 13:38:13 09/25/16) Verify that the bolts attaching the carburetor to the engine block are tight.
