where is the place ?

The place where you put the special nut for the four inch grinder when using a wire wheel with built in threads. I know the last thing you think is -I better not lose this. So where is the safe place it got stored?. Apparently it is not the top of the tool box. Another self-inflicted time waster.

Hello dr. sportster,

Easy question! Twisty tie or a piece of soft copper is all you need. Through the loop and around the cord at the plug end. Works for me....

Guido.

On the wall above the workbench I have a row of nails on which I hang the discs and wheels, and when I use a wheel with built-in threads I hang the nut from its nail. Works great until I replace a shingle on the outside wall and the hammering makes the nut fall off and I have to move half the shop to get it out of where it rolled...

Simple zip tie it to the card that way when you need it you will have it unless you miss place the grinder. That is what I do with most chuck keys

I usually put it somewhere safe where there is no way I can lose it. Then I spend a week looking for that place.

I used to have this trouble with all sorts of things , spectacles included , which meant I then had Buckley's chance of finding anything .
So I changed one simple thing and now rarely if ever do I misplace something I put away safely . Not only does it work for me , I also persuaded my wife and daughter to do the same , they almost never pester me with '' Where is , so and so , anymore .

So , what did I do ? It is so simple it is hard to believe it works but it really does . All you have to do is ask yourself this one question when you go to put something away 'safely'.

[u:0e9ad26f4a]Where do I want to find this when I want it ? [/u:0e9ad26f4a]

Surprisingly this action does not really use our memory , it uses the search system rather than the filing or storage system . The search facility of our brain is faster and more adaptive , it will immediately take you to the place you first suggested that you should look for your item . It is a hunter gatherer thing rooted deeply into our primal neurological programing , try it , it works . :)

Hello dr. sportster,

Can't hang it any closer then the tool it belongs to....... HA! HA!,

Guido.

I cut the tops off quart oil bottles. Use them as organisers in truck tool box. I know exactly where my nuts are along with the spanner tool needed for right angle grinder.

"Where do I want to find this when I want it ?"

I ask myself a similar question- "Where will I look for this the next time I need it?"

It always works if you remember to ask the question.

A filing cabinet makes a great tool box to store tools like that.
I feel your pain I brought a Control arm bushing remover/installer the first time I went to use it could not locate it. It was were I put it and the first place I looked

Each of my power tools that have accessories gets stored in its own cheap plastic box. When I want to use the angle grinder all the grinding wheels, sanding discs etc are right there, in the same box as the grinder.
Keys for drill chucks get taped to the plug end of the cord.
Solder, flux, emery cloth, brass cleaning brush, etc in same box as the soldering iron.

I hang mine on the same nail, that holds the spanner wrench, that tightens the nut.

A very handy "jar" to keep smaller stuff in and it will not break. When you use up a jar of Hellmans Mayo just wash out the jar. Nice quart size of storage space and you can see inside as to what is there.

I just lay mine inside the disk I removed and lay it with the wrench. Even if the disk is worn out I don't throw it away till it's time to go back on.

Do it all the time. "I'll put it here because here is where I will never forget it, and to make doubly sure I never forget it, I'll lay my wallet in the middle of the kitchen floor before I go to bed to remind myself". I lay the wallet in the middle of the floor, go to bed, get up in the morning and pickup my wallet from the floor and put it on top of the refridge where it belongs, shower, get dressed, put my wallet in my back pocket and go to work. A year later I'll ask myself, "Where did I put...?". Do it all the time. I'd ask my wife but I forget where she is.

I did a job in a home one time, was down in the basement and the fella had small mason jars hanging from a piece of plywood that he fastened up across the floor joists above. Rows of them neatly lined up. He drilled a hole in the center of the lids and simply screwed them up to the plywood, then twisted the mason jars up above to hang from the lids filled with whatever little... Was pretty neat. Great idea that I haven't incorporated, but thanks for reminding me.

Glad it isn't just me that gets troubled by such. After loosing two of them I reasoned that if you need the nut you need the special wrench so I fastened a short piece of small chain to the wrench handle and one of those carabeaner?? snap hooks and thats where the nuts go when not needed on the grinder

I keep mine in the case for the grinder. I originally bought the DeWalt case with my 4 1/2" Dewalt grinder. What a waste of money ($40). It's too doggone small. You have to place the grinder in the box's cradle just right, with the cord placed just right and the spanner wrench in its holder just right just to close the case top. Then there's no room in the case for a wire wheel, extra cutoff disks, grinder wheels, safety glasses, etc. I went to HD and spent $10 for an orange "Homer Box that's big enough for everything, including 25 pack of spare cutoff disks, safety glasses, etc.

Anyway, I keep the nut in the removable tray in the tool box along with the spanner wrench.

We use a two foot long piece of baling wire with a small loop on one end. Feed the wire through all the discs and wire cups and slip the end through the loop and twist. When you hit the road for a field repair you only have to grab the grinder and the loop of discs. Fewer things to look for in a hurry

Not a problem here. I just have a different angle grinder for each attachment. Now where did I leave the angle grinder I need lay the last time I used it???

don't know if other brands would work this way but on my bosch I just thread the nut all the way down the shaft first and there is still plenty of threads sticking out to put on the wire wheel.

I have two sets, and usually they are hanging on the wall of the shop above the work bench. That is unless I need them then someone has used them and I have to go hunting through the barns and machinery shed to see where they were used last.

I use those plastic containers that you get screws in from the local hardware store. Snap the top back on them -- then that darn cat can knock them off the shelf and they don't spill
