Gear puller question

So I was trying to pull a gear off the other day with a bearing separator. Hopefully this isn't too complicated/confusing. Everything was peachy until one of the 2 studs that went down to the bearing separator sheared off. It is a rod with one end threaded that goes on the outside of the bar that has the threaded screw (that you turn to pull the bearing off) and the other end has 2 different threads to go into 2 different bearing separators. The threads are stepped. I can try for a picture tonight if it doesn't make sense. Need to know what this might be called and where I might be able to find parts.

Thanks.

I understand what part you broke but I have never seen one that has a stepped thread, I believe those rods can still be purchased from OTC. yours may be an older New Britain or some other older American made tool. email is open if you would like to send a photo.

i got fine thread drill rod from mcmaster carr. i think it is grade 8. works really well, and you can cut several different lengths depending on how long you need them.

If you find one let us know. I have one that has the exact same problem and I have not found a replacement as of yet

I replied earlier that OTC may have them, they do . they are listed in their website in all different lengths for 17 1/2, 30 and 50 ton units . they are referred to as legs.

Like Glennster said, go to somewhere like Mcmaster Carr and get a piece of grade 8 threaded rod to fit. I've made many pullers like this over the years, and they work just as good as the factory stuff.
