Heathkit update

Hello,

I had a chance to use the meter. The R.P.M. function works. Both high and low range scales read the same. Dwell angle is next. I took a picture of the board while I had it apart for the battery pack,

Guido.

I built a Knight-Kit shortwave receiver back in the day- didn't have the test equipment to align it, so took it to a local radio shop. They didn't do the job, and managed to lose the manual in the process. I finally just threw it away. Not a great experience.

Just googled Knight R100A, and got 347,000 hits. Shame we didn't have Google back then. LOL.

In 1967, I assembled a Heathkit signal tracer. It worked perfectly.

A few years ago, I attempted to assemble a TenTec SW receiver. Nice kit, good instructions, but I screwed up something. No smoke, but no signal either.

Many of my electronic projects are smokers, ha.

Just recently attempted to convert an old Direct TV receiver to remote control a big old fan in my shop. It worked perfectly using a light bulb, but it won't turn off after trying the fan. I used a 40 amp solid state "relay". Control signal still works, but the "relay" is locked on. Gonna try an old school relay next.

The failures are the easiest to remember - usually because they are more spectacular, ha.

Hello PJH

I had a shortwave heatkit receiver, could not get the Turner resonance out of it. It also had long wave a d am bands. Sold it though,

Guido - I have a Heathkit HW-8 ham transceiver. I think it makes about 2 watts output. CW only. It's a neat little rig. I didn't assemble it - I bought it at a hamfest about 20 years ago. I worked a station on the Canary Islands once using it.

Hello PJH,

I was in an apartment in NY on the top floor. I had the antenna up on the roof with insulators, then down the fire escape into my room. Having taller buildings all around limited reception though, but it was fun listening around the world.......

Guido.
