Can anyone recommend a good (free) land measurement app for the android platform? I tried one with good ratings but don't like it. Also tried a strobe tachometer but the LED flash is not quick enough to freeze the motion. Looking for something better.

If your county has GIS mapping, it is very accurate. We have it in our county, I don't know if it is a nation wide item. Pete

It's FieldsArea Measure. Doesn't seem to settle in on GPS when stationary and when I'm here in the house it show me about 200 feet away in the neighbor's driveway. And really drains the battery.

Maybe the Field Area Measure is right. Some of the old survey are off some.

No, I get this using GPS and satellite images with real good resolution. I uninstalled it this morning.

I've used Distance and Area Measure by Kristofer Bjornson. As you walk or drive it calculates the distance traveled and the area enclosed by the shape that you're drawing as you move away from the starting point. Not perfect but it seems to work pretty well. The ruler tool in Google Earth (free download PC program) works well for measuring the length and width of square-cornered, straight-sided fields.
