coating for tractor tires

My tractor sets outdoors all the time. What is a good coating to put on the tires to protect them from sun ? Thanks for any help.

I've read several discussions about this before.

What I got from them is a coating or treatment can actually just dry them out faster. I try to keep any costly rubber that is outside covered up from sunlight. Just a tarp big enough to cover the whole tractor works for me.

Another option would be one of those harbor freight porta garage things? Would be a little better then a tarp.

The sun is the biggest enemy of tires, that and letting them sit flat. Anything you can do to shade them, propping up plywood, wrapping them in a tarp, will help.

I have mixed feelings about tarping the whole tractor, it promotes condensation and rodent damage.

Under some type of shed is much better.

I have been told plain old latex house paint is fine. Black of course. It's going to crack and flake and peel, but it's not supposed to hurt them. Is that true? I don't know.

shed is best but sitting out?? There isn't much you can do except buy a good quality tire to begin with. I've seen 30 year old Firestones that had minimum problems with the sun then seen Chinese built ones 5 years old that had severe problems. Hope you find something.

Those are all fine & dandy PROVIDED you never have any strong winds in your area, then you'll find it in the next county. BTDT !

Hello Steve-Maine,

Go to your your local RV dealer. They have tire covers to keep the sun out,

Guido.

Team 3 Protectorant for tires is top notch best there is. Miller Tire sells it-antique farm tire company also on ebay.

Do NOT use Armorall/ STP etc. They have either alchohol or petroleum distillate sin them which kills rubber.

I think Miller Tire that claims tires need to be driven on at least occasionally to help chemicals within tires to migrate to surface . This helps prevent cracking and drying. Tires that sit in sun and never get used don't seem to last long.

DO NOT USE.. anything that contains[b:42beea9808] petroleum distillants.[/b:42beea9808]. as it will serverly dry out the rubber and remove the natural oils...

AND almost all the tire shine products contain.....[/u]
