Rust Stains an other on vinyl fence

On occasion while mowing with my lawn tractor I will brush up against our vinyl fence and of course a black mark is left. They seem to come off easily however the fence is also hit by sprinkler water from the well leaving rust stains. Anyone have a good way to clean the rust off? There...., tractor related! LOL Seriously, the participants on tis site are great for having remedies of all sorts. Thanks for any help!

A weak solution of warm water and Oxalic acid will rip any rust stain off right away . It is often sold in feed merchants by the pound . A half a coffee cup full in a gallon bucket should be more than enough . Use gloves , watch your eyes and keep it off plants you like . It will damage paint but won't hurt plastic .

hard on plants... ok... what about grass.. does it just brown it up or kill it. the concrete pad in front of my shop has a lovely rust patina from welding and grinding for years there..I try to blow it off every day but sometimes ???

I need to pressure wash the driveway, but that section stays brown... tht stuff work without scorching the earth ??

I don't know if it safe to use on vinyl fence, nor what it would do to plants near the fence - so you would need to research that...

But in the house I've had great success with Whink Rust Remover (a liquid found in the cleaning aisle of grocery or hardware stores).

Have used Whink to remove rust stains from porcelain tub, stainless steel sink, and even from dishes or clothing.

Oxalic acid is the main ingredient in some products marketed as deck and siding cleaners and brighteners. Use it often for washing weathered cedar siding with no ill effects to any surrounding plants or grass.

No real danger unless you use it in high concentrations and leave it without rinsing down . Most of the damage to grass will come from the hot water . Try a bit in an obscure spot , our grass might be tougher than yours .
It costs only a few dollars a kilogram here , enough to make gallons of the stuff . Far more economical than commercial preparations that are basically the same stuff with a surfactant added to make it stick .
