dual tandem axel traikler

I have a dual tandem axle trailer. Twice on the same position the inside dual rim has been broken, (all tires are the same size as well as the rims)I do not know why, the axle is not bent, no broken bolts or shackles. I now have to replace the hub because of damage to it. Any ideas or thoughts as to why this is happening. Thanks in advance.

Oversize tires(a lot of people switch up to 235 when the axle was made for 215) can and will break wheels if the tires touch under a load(including when turning). Another thing is if the wheel are not setting on the hub square, because of dirt, rust or if the wheels and hubs have locator pins that are not lined up.

Are the tires matched brand and model? There is a lot of difference even in the same size tires between brands and models. However I've never heard of that causing your problem. Check the suspension and springs for bent parts and check if the axle is bottoming out. But I would look real carefully at the hub matching rim, and lug bolts and nuts as I suspect your problem will be there. A faulty hub would not be impossible.

Lots of dual axles require a "hub piloted rim" vrs a "lug piloted rim" to carry the load. Suspect rim is not fitting the hub center pilot correctly, and/or .... is binding on the drum or hub, thus forcing the rim to crack...

But I'm over here, and your over there... so, its just a wild guess.

When I worked in a fleet shop, we would measure the circumference of tires before mounting them on the truck or trailer. We found as much as 3/4 inch difference in same brand/same size tires. The only difference was the manufacture date.
