OT Husky51 spits out of carb when cranking and running

This Husky 51 makes a funny sound while the starter is slowly being pulled. spis, spis, spis on every compression stroke. It spits air/fuel back out of the carb when the starter is pulled trying to start it. Similar to a intake reed valve partiality stuck open.
After it is cranked and revved up wide open, it still spits fuel/air back out of the carb.
Any advise to what causes this?

Hello Copperhead,

Check the muffler screen. Also you should take the muffler off and clean the port out. Saw is old enough enough to have accumulated lots of carbon. Careful cleaning the port so no carbon goes into the top of the piston,

Guido.

lots of them have spark supressor screens in the muffler that cause problems if just a little bit stopped up.

The diaphragm in the carb has a gasket that is matched to it. If this gasket fails it will produce gas spitting symptoms as describe. Time for a rebuild.

Hello Petehall,

Ha! I said it first! Yep that sounds like the problem. May be we get lucky and get a follow-up?
It is the exception not the rule on this site he!

Well, after being under the weather ,finally got around to the Husky that is spitting air back out of the carb whether it is running or just pulling the start cord with the plug unplugged.
Pulled the jug off the piston after finding the clean exhaust port and muffler screen clean. This Husky 51 only has a few hours on it even if it is old.
Found the piston ring stuck, after freeing it up, I put it back together.
I was give out physically, and will try it tomorrow to see it works any better. If not, I will look at the diaphragm in the carb.
Thanks,
for all you your advice.

Hello Copperhead don't play,

Hope you feel better. I guessed wrong again!. Anyhow, if what you did was not the issue (I'm guessing it
is), make sure the tang that the diaphragm actuates is not too high. That would over fuel the engine and may
make it spit out of the carb also.........

Guido.
