removing fuel line

Is there a trick to removing a fuel line? Nut is loosened all the way out, I know the end is flared but I am pulling pretty hard and line won't budge?? Thanks (MF 245 diesel)

There are rubber sleeve grommets on those lines, and can be VERY hard to get out. If you can get the line nuts back a bit farther I've used a pick to break the hard rubber apart so the line can be removed.

oh yes, I remember now from a few years ago doing this....do the new lines come with new rubber gaskets I wonder?

Yes I remember these sleeves being introduced and they could be a real pain especially if the sleeve had been fitted behind the swage on the pipe so that the tube nut mangled the sleeve into the thread, If I remember correctly the sleeve should be placed on the end of the pipe so that the swage on the pipe compresses it to form the seal as the tube nut is tightened.

Is your old line broken??? IF it is just leaking you just need to get the new rubber grommets and replace them on your original lines.

Your trouble is that the line is slightly flared on the end with the rubber grommet behind that flare. The nut compresses the rubber grommet to squeeze the line. The grommets become rock hard and can make it tough to get the ling removed.

Like the earlier poster stated: IF you can get the fitting back for the end of the line you can pick the hard rubber grommet out piece at a time. As soon as you get some of the old grommet out the line will more than likely come out then you can get all of the old rubber out.

If the lines need to be replaced I just use the same size steel brake line from the parts store. The ends don't have to be flared either, just use new rubber sleeves. When the line nuts are drawn up tight the lines are held solid, and with no flared ends they will come out easier next time. That's how the lines are on the MF puller tractor I play with, and none have ever come loose.
