Dig for your paper work,the new ones have a good guarantee, something like half off a new one if the factory can t repair your old one.

The drill was purchased in 1972.

Can't really offer any advice other than the obvious that quality is going to be expensive, but you might try the site I linked below. Got several carpenter and/or mechanic buddies who get all their replacement parts from there. If nothing else, they might have a few options you could compare.
