Resolute Oil

At Fleet Farm, they have their own brand of oil, Resolute. Is this any good? The price is right at 2.25 for conventional 5-30 and 10-30. I'm thinking about using it in car and pickup. Any feedback is welcome.

On most stuff like that if you look on the back it will tell you what company supplies it to that chain of stores. Now days many oils are made by only a few companies so good chance it is made by Valvoline or Mobile etc

Also, if you read the back, you may find (as I did) that a lot of these "better priced" oils are made from 'recycled' oil.

Read your owners manual, or look online for your specific vehicle's oil requirements. Then look on the container for a circle with API letter designations. If the oil meets the manufacturer requirements, it will be safe to use. You do want to match the viscosity requirements, especially in todays high tech engines.

The brand has little if anything to do with the quality, just depends on who's container it goes in. There are specialty oils, and these will be brand specific, but for general purpose oil it's all the same IMHO.

Old, the same can be said about many thing sold at Wal-mart. Parrie farms milk products is sitting beside Wal-mart brand dairy. Man working in that department showed me with his scanner that the cheaper brand is exactly the same product, just in a different package.

Our gasoline comes from just a few refineries in the US.

If you researched who makes what and where it would be an eye opener.

What's easier to remove from oil stock, a little carbon and metal dust , or dinosaur teeth, bones and skin. Either way after its refined , you still need to mix in the additive package , so pretty much the same result....

Del when I was in the fuel business, we spent quite a bit of time in the lab testing many brands of oil. Spent some time in a blending plant, one time when I was there they were blending 4 different brands of motor oil. All the base stock was comming from the same tank car of Oke crude. The difference is in the additive packages. Some have extensive additive packages. Most of the cheaper brands just barely meet specks. I used to have volumes of test results of different oil brands, but with a house fire they are longer available to me. Most will work OK just keep them changed according to your book.

I use to deliver into the refiners of Whiting ,Indiana and the major manufactures do manufacture for others but the oil is not the same specs as their own company brand of oil.
