3ph question update.

I finally got tired of thinking about the magnetic switch on my radial arm saw and just swapped in a plain old 3-pole switch. After doing some research and listening to you guys next time I'll use a variable frequency drive.

Most of the newer VFD's support safe torque off and do not require a contractor, it is prudent to use a contractor on the older ones.

You can run most VFD's on single phase, just have to upsize them to compensate for the lost phases.

David, My miter saw using dynamic braking by shorting out the wires when the switch is turned off, no resistor. Miter saw is a universal motor. Will dynamic braking work on 3 phase motors, no brushes? It been years since I worked on 3 phase motors. Then the 3 phase was really 3 phase. Except for helping my dad make phasers the old school way for farmer's grain drying motors and irrigation pumps. Dad made static and dynamic phasers. Don't think VFD were invented back then.
