Handcleaner is a tool, right?

For years I used NAPA 5005 hand cleaner. Bought a dispenser to hang on the wall. One of those where you take the top off the plastic continer, invert it into the dispenser and then it always worked best to cut bottom out of the container so the stuff would feed evenly.

Well, NAPA or somebody got smart, what they sell as 5005 now is not the same recipe. Probably decided to let the Chinese make it cheaper, even though this can cost about $2 more than the last one. Way too runny. Its NO fun at all to lose 1/2 the can on the floor when filling the NAPA dispenser. The old stuff was thick enough not to do that. And it doesn't clean as well as the old 5005 did either.

So, What do you guys use? I stayed away from the gritty stuff because it was hard on the dispenser mechamisim. Does anyone know why made the old stuff and what brand it actually was?

Thanks!

I have used lots of different brands over the years. I have found that Dawn disk soap works just about as well as any now. Some ingredient must have been band as none of the hand cleaners work very well anymore.

You can make your own easily enough .
Your choice of dishwashing detergent
twice that amount of baby oil
as much or as little sand as you want .
About half of that mixture of water .
Mix the solution with a paint stirrer in a power drill until the oil emulsifies and the mixture thickens .
You can by what amounts to baby oil cheaply from oil distributors , not suitable for a baby's bum but fine for your hand.

Dawn dish soap. If my hands are really bad I call in the big dogs. I had the wife get me a box of Cascade dishwasher powder. It works great. When you put water to it there is some kind of chemical reaction because it gets warm. The abrasive lasts about as long as it takes to get them washed. I've never had it fail me yet.

I find that if I stop and wash my hands part way though whatever I am doing it keeps it from setting in as bad. I also have some of those Harbor Freight 7 mil gloves in the shop for things like greasing machinery or servicing tractors.

Use coffee grounds instead of sand. Local woman makes/sells soaps. Her 'Grease Monkey' soap works, has coffee grounds for
grit.easier on hands.

I hate the pumice cleaner unless I have a sink to rinse off with. So. I use a smooth hand cleaner from ZEP, feeding from a dispenser, in the shop. In the field I use the Smooth Fast Orange from NAPA. Both seem to work equally well.

I use Ajax dish detergent. But if you want to get your hands and nails really clean just wash your dog using Dawn. TDF

Been using Zep MVP for quite some time and it does the job for me. Lots cheaper to buy it on line than from the traveling sales people that come to the shop.

Nobody mentioned "Joe's" handcleaner. It's easy to use, with water or not, smells nice (kinda like bananas), and doesn't dry the skin out like many do that has naptha or something like it.

It's available in some auto parts stores but not all, so I guess it's a matter of finding it. And, if kept in a hot place, like a pickup tool box in the summer, it will sour after a while.

I keep it in the house and it's fine. If I get really grungy I'll get a good glop of it in my hands outside and rinse with the water hose.

It will also take out grease stains in clothing without damage to the garment, put a little on the place and rub it in before washing.

Fast Orange with a pump on the jug. Also fast Orange bars of soap very similar to lava soap . I can never find the Lava in the food stores.

My brother had an older Gojo dispenser that I put in the shop. I used a small container of Goop which happen to be the same size to fit the dispenser. It seems to work well and to my knowledge wasnt a petroleum product like the Gojo. It hasnt separated too bad as far as I can tell.

we use scrub-it, the cream color one from 1st ayd corporation here at the shop. really cuts grease and grime fast and doesnt stink. heres a link
poke here

Goop and Orange Goop. Have a can in garage, barn, two different bathrooms. It even comes in a tube that I carry in truck. No worry about the lid getting knocked off the tub and drying out.

Mean Green(Dollar General) and then a little Dawn. It is the best and cheapest thing I have ever used.

Boraxo powder for really ground in goo, else Gojo or Lava. Never could get Goop to work and the orange gritty stuff is just so-so.

I have tried many products and a lot of them are nearly as effective as the other. The one I always go back to is Joe's Hand cleaner, the green label with scrubbing agent and lanolin. It doesn't stink, not greasy, leave hands dry, and can be used without water.

Hand cleaners have been a topic here quite often. What I find funny is when some come on here and say try this or that it is the best stuff ever ! And I do or have and it does not work ! Ha Ha. I really don't understand it ? Maybe my grease is tougher than many others ?
