This tractor will be operated on the hills of Eastern Nebraska and I was wondering if I should consider going to the expense of changing from tricycle front to wide front or would just moving rear wheels as far apart as possible be sufficient?

I would also like to once more thank everyone who answered all my original questions on this tractor. It starts and runs very well.
Thank you.

IMHO wide fronts just feel safer on hills. Assuming the wheels are all on pretty much flat ground, by the time you get to the front axle stop due to a rear wheel lifting the tractor is rolling anyway. Best thing is to work up and down hill, not side hill.

Any tractor be it trike or wide front end can and will roll. You just do not drive along a hill you drive up them and down. Picture is a n 8N ford the guy drove along the hill side and having a wide front did not help him one bit. If it had not been for the tree he would have rolled that 8N

If you are going to put a loader on it?
Without a loader I would not worry about it,
just set the rear wheels wide. If you are
going to put a loader on it then I would
recommend a wide front.

Wanted to say Thank You to everyone who has replied. Your valuable input is greatly appreciated.

I agree with you for the most part. The "pivot" on a narrow front is the wheel contact patch with
the ground. On a hill side this will be further up hill and further from the center of gravity than
the pivot on a wide front end, which is higher and closer to the center of gravity, so it will want
to roll sooner than the wide. Again in general I agree with you there is little difference and it
is best to be aware and careful.

Approximately 70% of the tractor weight is on the rear wheels. Narrow front end or wide front end really makes no difference in stability. If you are not comfortable driving the tractor on a steep slope, don't do it. Period.

Like said about the loader. We have hilly ground and the wheels have been set for 60 inch centers for over 50 years. Never rolled it and had the cultivator on for 30 inch rows. In fact most of the tractors on the eastern half of MI have been 30 inch rows for decades.
