What Do They Think They Are Doing?

Went to Sears yesterday... Went to buy some Fuel additive to add to lawnmower fuel. It comes in a 16 oz. bottle. It clearly says 12 oz's. in the bottle. there is a clear strip with measurements down one side, & I picked up 3 different bottles that had maybe 11 oz. in it, according to the level, & the bottle was even squeezed in horribly so when You take the cap off the bottle; it will be lucky to read 9 oz's. & they they want $6 for it. I told the clerk who walked up & asked if I needed help I wanted the store manager! He came, I explained it to Him, He started to apologize, & I interrupted, told Him I was leaving empty handed, & if truly sorry; then He will clear the store shelf of the product, & send it back to whoever it came from, & demand a true amount in the bottle next time!!!

You should have let him finish speaking. I was waiting to cash out at Sears a couple weeks ago and a fellow had this same complaint. The Mgr. came back with a decent deal. Customer bought one at regular price and Sears gave him 2 for free to cover the shortage.

Seems like it's a supply problem no one caught.

The store manager and clerk are both likely to be on unemployment a year from now. Sears is still in business today because it has put all of its real estate up as collateral for loans. Sooner or later it's going to run out of operating capital. Of course I said the same thing a year ago, but nothing has really changed.

Wouldn't you hate to be a store manager or clerk in a failing retail business lol but hey at least they are working versus some of the alternatives

You were rude and obnoxious to two people over a six dollar bottle of fuel additive that they had absolutely no control over. And you come here proud as a peacock to brag???

It's called an average volume and if you were actually concerned you would contact the manufacturer instead of being hatefull to other folks just doing their job. Do you put your bag of potato chips on a scale?

The difference could easily have been from putting the label on poorly and not from putting the wrong amount in the bottle. Those things are monitered closely at the factory and I think you would find the correct amount in the bottle.

I'd guess the bottle had the clear sight line and the oz numbers molded into the plastic of the bottle. A quality control scale at the production line should have kicked anything light out of the line. For grins and giggles I'd have put the bottles on a kitchen scale to see how light they really were.

I saw an article on MSN that listed the worst companies to work for.

Sears was on the list. Seems many of the employees are on "salary + commission", which I interpret to mean very low pay unless business is good. Some Radio Shack employees said they had worked entire shifts without a single sale.

I recently went mattress shopping. Went to the mall in search of a special one of the stores was running. Found out the advertised mattress was not available, just a trick to get you in the door. Went to several other stores, encountered rude sales people, high prices, nothing in stock,no one available in that department...

Last stop was Sears. Very helpful salesman, had exactly what I needed, great price, in stock. Went to pay for it, he offered a discount, signed us up for future discounts on purchases. All around a very pleasant sale!

"you were actually concerned you would contact the manufacturer"

The problem is that Chinese manufacturers will promise one thing and then try to cut corners. If Sears buys from them, Sears is responsible for ensuring they get what was ordered. The clerk and the manager should not have stocked a clearly defective product.

Integrity and trust.
Do not care if it is a restaurant, box store or equipment dealership, If you screw me for a nickel on a low cost item then I perceive you will try to do the same to me on a big purchase.
Loose my trust and you loose my business.

Anther poster mentioned seeing the same thing so the company was aware of the problem and chose to ignore it.

Still plenty out there that will stand behind what they sell and go the extra mile to make things right when a problem comes up.
The little things are what influence where I choose to spend my money.

I buy a lot of things from Sears. I seldom have an issue and quality is good. The 800 # in their service manuals has always been helpful. Salary + commission does not always mean low pay.

It's been better than two decades since I've darkened the doorway of one of those holes.

The bottles were probably old stock. Some plastic bottles are porous to some light materials. I have some ice-melter in a spray bottle, mostly alcohol, the fluid level is slowly dropping even though I've not used any for months. Thin plastic soda bottles can loose the carbonation without being opened.

I was going to patch a tire yesterday. I had two partial tubes of patch adhesive. The caps were tight, but the tubes were empty. Where did it go?

I think my late uncle was on a commission
when he came East to see his son's graduation. He asked my mom if she could loan him $5.00 so he had bus fare back to TX.

She gave him $10.00 and we were on the farm. She told him not to return the money. He was in the active AF reserves when WW2 started and stayed in the reserves until he retired. Was a
Colonel when he retired. He was a big BS. Hal

Like everywhere else, it all depends on the store and the salesman, doesn't it?
A couple of years ago, we had a washing machine fail on us on a Sunday morning. The better half and I decide to hit a Sears store on a Sunday afternoon. (FWIW, Sears is a half-hour away from us. Any other appliance store that's open on a Sunday afternoon is over an hour away from us, so Sears it was...) The salesman's only desire was to watch the football games that were being broadcast on all the TVs. We were obviously a distraction to his ball game watching. (The store has since stopped selling TVs. I wonder why....) He pushed us hard into buying the super efficiencies that were high dollar. He didn't like it when we picked out a top-load, inefficient model. He even tried to scare us several times by saying that the inefficient washing machines were a poor buy because congress passed a law that made it impossible to buy replacement parts for the inefficient machines, LOL!
We bought the washer. Heck, we had to. At least it's holding up okay.

Anytime I go to Sears it's a strange experience. Either I get someone very helpful or they have a personality problem. Never consistent. And hardly any customers in there. Don't know how they're staying in business.

The measurement on the side of the bottle is hardly scientific. It's only there to give you a general idea of how much to use. If it's a sticker, it could easily be placed wrong on the bottle.
