Best quality line for weed trimmer??

I would be interested in what you consider the toughest, longer lasting trimmer line?? I have used different ones but not so convinced the "best recommended" really is...thanks for your input.

Hello Nordic,

Lime Ted said + get one with ridges of any kind. Speed kills, just go fast enough to do the job. Gas and
line will last much longer. Staying off hard surfaces will also help the life,

GUIDO.

I found some .095 line with ridges that seems to hold up well, found it on clearance at the end of the season, and bought a fairly large spool of it. At the rate I am using it, it will last me several years,
and probably outlast the trimmer I am using. I go through about 1/3rd the amount I did using the .080 stuff, and about once a year I go along the road and trim out the fence line. You do need to use care
around anything fragile such as vinyl siding, or painted surfaces as it will do damage much easier than the smaller stuff.

The best, longest lasting I have ever found comes in a plastic jug, with instructions on how to mix it with it water.

I like Gatorline with Aramid fiber molded into it. They make it round, square and molded into a twist. I use .105" or .095". Also, get you a Speedfeed brand head. They are only around $30 and you can load them in less than a minute. They come with adapters to fit about any trimmer. I carry about 6 or 8 feet of extra line rolled up in my back pocket when I am trimming fence line, for a quick reload if it runs out. The Speedfeed is of the 'bump and go' advance type.

I bought some Gatorline on Ebay, going to try the twisted looking variety.

i had good luck with husqvarna titanium force trimmer line in my smaller trimmers, seems to last a long time and feeds well without melting inside the spool. when i upgraded to a stihl fs90r, i have been using the stihl line in that trimmer with good results too.

I also started using 105 gator line in my fs110. It last much better then the .095 line the manual tells you to use.

Yep, it's amazing how much more power it takes to run larger line. My spool and weedwacker specifies 80 max, but 105 will fit. Well, that 105 lasted a LONG time, my little terd weedwacker didn't have enough guts to hardly run the 105 lol

I don't know if Gatorline deteriorates with time, I've had my roll for two years now and seems to wear so quickly. It is the .105 square line with fibre insert. I bought the orange .95 square from Walmart before that and by now I think I got more mileage out of that. It is interesting to hear everyone's input...thanks for having taken the time to do so. Nordic.

I have purchased several aftermarket brands over the years and always seem to back to the OEM
Stihl brand for the best durability.

The comment below about using fresh line has
rung true for me. Don't buy large amounts un
less you use it quickly and buy from a place
that sells lots of it. We are running FS110
Stihls and have had the best luck with Stihl
line.

This stuff is pretty tough

Interesting...it was the Stihl dealer that recommended the Gatorline to me when I asked for the best :?

Back in the early 2000s when I worked in a warehouse, my boss was a 100% Stihl guy. Stihl trimmer, only Stihl line on it. One day I was in the local hardware getting some other stuff and bought a pack of Echo Crossfire line. It would last much much longer than the stihl line we were getting from our Stihl dealer at the time.

Another thing, this may be an old wive's tale, but I have been told multiple times that to rejuvinate old trimmer line that is not performing, soak it 24 hours in water. I never tried it, so don't know if that works or not.

I use a Echo 266 trimmer and it won't pull (power) the .105 line. I've had to drop back to the silver Titanium line .095". I'm
trimming dry mature weeds along a mile of chain link fence. I use the Speed Feed as well and the line gets cross between the two
sections in the head and breaks a lot. I've taken to spray dry silicon spray and have use like WD 40 only other brands of spray.
Just NO easy answers here. bjr

I've never tried the Titanium line...have you noticed that to have more endurance? Except for the risk of pieces breaking off and hitting your legs I'm tempted to try some form of steel wire LOL.

Throw the string head away & put a blade on. Stihl dealer did that for me15 yrs ago & I will put a new blade on this year.Blade will cut .5 trees as well as big weeds no problem.

I agree the blade is awesome...but I have to do a lot of trimming along concrete and paving stones...not friendly on blades.
